Salt Lake Tribune.
Yesterday a man from Park City
came.into the Clift House consid
erably excited, and inquired if a cer
tain person was stopping there. lie
explained that the man had done him
dirty, and he was anxious to lick him.
Finding that the man had just left the
house he rushed out after him, and
Ihuling him on Tribune avenue, walk
ed up an 1 announced that lie come
all the way from l’ark City to lick him
and accordingly he started m. In a
few minutes ho had blackened both
the man’s eyes, walked all over him,
to a general wreck. When ho had
finished the job ho stood tho man
up against tho wall of Walker's
bank and remarked:
Now, yon contemptible, 1 ipear
ed , I want you to understand
that I consider you the most infa
moHs whelp I ever saw. You dir
ty little our, I
Hdd on! said tho man who had
just been licked, taking off iiis coat.
I think that after thrashing a man
you've get no right to abase him.
I can stand a hexing but 1 won’t
stand abuse from and living man,
no matter how much lie weighs.
Now I am going to lick you.
lie was as good as his word, nd
start'd with the most business like
air imaginable and knocked his late
victor into tho gutter. Every time
ho got up ho knociiod him down
with blast mo, I can't stand abuso.
When lie got through with the City
Turk mini, the crowd thought he
was it pile of rags and mud.
Now, look lioro my friend, said
the lust victor, n, xt time you lick a
man, lot well enough alone. Don't
abuse him. You bandied yoursell
well enough while you were linking
mo but you overdid tho abuse,
Abraham Lincoln Quoted.
During the debate on tho Chinese
bill, when iho Republican Senators
were hard pressed upon tho negro
question they all fell bask upon the
following quotation from Abraham

I sill say, then, that I am not
nor iver had been in favor of bring
ing about in any way the social and
political equality "f tho white ami
black races; that J am not or ever
have boon in 1 ivor of malting vo

qualifying lhem to hold office, or
intermarry with tho whito pooplei
and I will say, in addition to this,
there is a physical difference bo
tweeu I lie white and blade races
living together on terms of social
and political equality. Alnl inas
much as they Caimut so live, while
they do live together there must be
the positi ui of superior and inferi

man, am in favor of having tho su

Tho Acropolis of Athens.
11l the centre of Athens, and
forming its chief orii'.iiiienf, stood
ilio Acropolis, the glory of the Gre

whole of Athens was originally
built; but us the city extended, tho
Acropolis came to toive the pur
pose of a citadel, and a great de
pository for everything the most
splendid wh,ch the human genius
could produce in painting, sculp

chief ornament was the exceedingly
beautiful temple c lied tho Parthe

Minerva, by Phidias, the master
piece of jilic art of statuary.
Ii was of ivory, thirty-nine feet in
height, and entirely covered with
pure gold, to tlin value of a million
of dollars. This temple after the
lapse of centuries, and in ruins,

Texas is different from any other

but a short horn if of superior attrac

The Atlanta Constitution says on
the authority of Commissioner Hen

so far than for the same period
at any time in the last eight years.
Tbe price varies in different locali
ties, and in some places standard
fertilizers sell as low as 100 pounds
of middling cotton per ton."
