How Tad6bnry Suffered-
An Ist'ii'bNT in Hum Lute.
(Times Democrat,)
A few years ago Mr Nathaniel
Tadshury was as happy a man tis
ever lived in New Orleans, but now
ho walks the street with a limp in
his gait and a sad look in his eyes.
Ilis troubles wore caused by a party
w hich his wife gave and a strange
similarity in the sound of the names
of several of the invited guests.
On the ntght of the party he en
tered tlie parlor, and his wife com
ing forward said: ‘Mr Tadshnry let
me introduce you to Mr Toot, who
is a friend to our daughter Mary.’
The gentleman extended his hand
and Tad bury grasped it cordially.
Just then some guests arrived all
of whom were strangers to each
other, and hearing the names of
Loot, Coot, Route, Newt aud Root.
After being presented to the
guests in the hallway Mr Tadsbnrv
ushered I hem into ths parlor, and
seeing Mr Toot sitting alone, ho
said,
‘ AllovV !uc to introduce you to Mr
Foot, Mr Toot; Miss Loot, Mr
Toot; Mi* Coot, Mr Toot; Miss
Roote, Air Toot; Mr Newt, Mr
foot, Aliss Loot let me piesoi t you

Mr Newt, Aliss Loot; Aliss Roote,
Air Coot) continued Tndsbitry gasp
ing. Air Mewt, Miss Roots; Air
Foot, Mr Coot; Mr Newt, Air Coot.
Suddenly ho appeared to lose
control of himself and he stood in
tiio middle of the parloi 1 floor ex
claiming ‘I! )oty ( loot, toot, loot,
looly, poot, eooty, tool, newf.y,
poo* y, pooly, loot ’
The assembled guests began to
stare in wild surprise, bitt he mere
ly kept on saving ‘Loot.v, tooty
looty, pout!’ until bis hnje i grew
deathly pale and bis eyes had a fix
ed, stony look iu them, that closely
resembled iusduitv. ‘My gfacious,
Nathaniel, what, is the illattei 1 with
you?’exclaimed his wile, greatly
Manned.
Uooty—-loot toot -toot, Rooty
—toot toot-—tool, lio moaned, ami
leaving the parlor rush <1 up stairs
to ilia room, ami falling in tlin boil
soon became delirious and finally
went Oil'into violent Hpasrns, during
which ho made fntilo attempts to
kick a hole through the coiling,
Several physicians were immediate
ly summoned, and an soon as they
could bring him through one spasm
he would open his eyes, yell ‘Toot,’
and go right oil' into another, I'ho
doctors could not explain tho cause
of his sudden illness, and quest iou
od his wife, Who stated that she did
not know whllt Was the matter Willi
her husbandi About this time
Tadblmry raised hiiUselt in tile bed,
and moving his arms over his head
cried out: ‘l'm a big brass horn.
Just listen to mo, liooty-—Toot—

—Toot Looty—Toot—Booty—
Toot;’ ami laughing wildly ho had
f air more spasms in loss than three
minutes. For three days ho re
mained in b id, and in bis delirium
tooted away until evry one in tho
house was nearly crazy from listen
ing to tho dreadful soumh When
the fever left him lie weighed about
as much as a straw hat, and his
eyes were set so far hack in Ins head
that he could not see on either side
ot him.
A He Hen,
A fcW months ago our friend Mr
Ben Waller, of tin's county, had a
family of chickens numbering fiftyj
five, embracing the usual propor
tions ot male, female and muter
genders, In less than two monlhs
an epidemic of cholera reduced the
flock to flve ) all of which Were hens.
The oldest of these, a speckled ma
tron of fifteen seasons, as soon as
she realized the giavity of the situ
ation discarded her set and took
charge of the four widowed pul
lets, Her spurs, coatb and wattles
grew' out in a single night, and her
voice charged to the regulation
tone. She now bosses the barn
yard with all tho arrogance of rt
genuine bantam, chows lustily, ahd
rigidly observes all the fashionable
duties peculiar to a musCulino hen.
Mr Waller is much perplexed in
mind at this singular freak of imt
nr nod appeals the readers of the
Journal fotr all information and any
explanation they may be able to of
fer on the subject.—McDuffie, Ga,
Journal.
A laments scientfst says that there is
a marked personal resemblance be
- husband and wife after they
have been married awhile. Wc have
noticed that fact. Somc'Vmc ago a
g Slant man, whose eyes were blue,
I married a jealous black-eyed woman,
I and in less than a year he haj black
I eyes himself.
The Prosperous Southern
Farmer'
Noithelai people lie;'' r 1 great deal
about the "poor white trash’’ of the
south*but scarcely anything about
the prosperous farmer. There are
more of these iu the south than
people up hero] imagine. Perhaps
they are more numerous in Georgia
than any other southern state.
The agriculturalists of Georgia have
gotii- into diversified farming to a
greater extent than have their
brethren in the surrounding states.
In Alabama, Mississippi and LOll
- the so-called agriculturist is
generally a cotton planter or sugar
planter. He raises enough of the
staple, but, with few exceptions lie
mortgages bis crops in advance in or
der to raise the money needed to pay
his help, and purchase his corn, wheat,
llotir and other articles that lie might
raise himself, InGeorg a, ever since
the extermination of the carpet-bag
gers, the leading newspapers and the
leading politicians have been preach
ing eloquent sermons on the subject
ot “diversified crops.” Asa result,
there are probably more farmers, as
we of New England understand the
word, in Georgia, than in any two of
tlie other southern states. In one
county in that state thete are twelve
farmers with an average of $30,000
each and two or three others with
twice that amount, —Rrtston Post.

How to Catch Crows.
A gentleman writes us that he
lias succeeded in catching several
crows from his corn fiiohl in tho
following novel manner: I arrang
ed a number of largo twine strings,
with a slip noose in each, and plac
ed them on stumps m the fields in
such a manner that when pulled
the stump would not interfere with
the closing of the noose. I stood
hidden at such convenient distance
and would almost invariably catch
the crew when he alighted Hi i the
stump, I caught eleven in one
morning in this manner.—Montezu
