The Columbus Baptist Asocciation
convened with Mt Zion church, on
Wednesday, 20th, and was organized
by the election of Dr K C Hood, of
Columbus, as Moderator, ami W J
David, as clerk. The reading of the
letters from churches, enroling the
names of delegates together with the
election of officers, completed the or
ganization, after which the Association
listined to an interesting address from
T C Boykin, in the interest of the
Christian Index. The introductory
sermon was preached by Rev Mr
Martin, The afternoon semv n of i
Wednesday was preached by Rev J A
Ivey, of Talliolton. Services were
also conducted at night at the church,
at the residence of Judge D J Caire
ker and at Horeb church.
During the morning session of
Thursday several speaker*, among
Professors J E Willett,of Mercer Uni
versity, delivered interesting addresses
on education.
Rev Simeon Maxwell, at the 11
o’clock service, preached an able dis
course on missions His views were
at once comprehensive and logical,
and were listened to with great atten- j
tion by the lerge audience present. I
In the afternoon sen ices were con
ducted by Rev A B Campbell, of Co
lumbus, whose sermon on the occasion :
produced a profound impress’on.
In afternoon business session re
ports were read on Temperance, State
; of Religiou and Sabbath Sc ho vis. these
subjects being discussed by several
speakers. Rev j H Moore, of Catau- j
ia, preached at night. A Treasurer, •
an Executive committee and delegates '
to the Baptist State Convention were
elected.
The report on Missions was made
the special order for Friday.
