TUESDAY -...OCTOBER 3 '.882
Official Organ of Talbot Comity.
The Campaign-
The present campaign, which wiii
close to-morrow, represents various
and conflicting interests. No period
is the history of Georgia furnishes it
parallel. But this much is clear and
openly defined, there is a general ral
lying of all the clans, the disorganizes,
the disgruntled, the recalcitrants, the
independents, the coalitionalisLs against
the organized democracy. It matters
not by what name these various forces
of opposition areexpressed,it is beyond
question that their aim is identical, the
defeat of a white man’s government
in Georgia. This latter means much
to the material and social interests of
the people. 'lt means the overthrow
of honest government and the substi
tution in its stead of jobbery, thieving
and corruption —it means bankruptcy
and ruined estate. It means that ig
norance is to dominate intellectual ad
vance, that bad men will hold high
carnival cn tlie ruins of a decaying
commonwealth.
We cannot believe the people are
prepared for the overthrow of their
liberties; we cannot believe that they
realize the true meaning and intent
of the opposition to the cause of De
mocracy and the welfare of the peo
ple. There is only one way to avert
the threatened evils—rally to the sup
port of all the party nominees, and at
tend more closely to the matter of lo
cal and state politics.

This is tlie season for the fall sow
ing of oats. An increased acreage de
voted to oats this fall is more impor
tant than the transaction of any other
business in sight, including the pick

candidates for office. A large oat
crop means forage next winter and
entire independence ot the com dis
tricts of tlie northwest next spring and
summer.
