Hayne, the poet of the South, have just been issued from the press of D. Lathrop & Cos., of Boston. It is pub lished in several elegant styles of binding and richly embellished with many choice engravings, making a volume of rare value. It is sold only by subscription. Agents arc desired in every city and town in the Southern States, Any one desiring to be of service to the poet should send their subscription or application for an agency to tire publishers. The most eminent men in the country were so much interested in the publication of Mr. Ilayne’s works that they subscribed months in ad vance. The poet’s genius has dis armed sectional prejudice, and the Boston Transcript asks how many persons know the life of Paul Hamil ton Hayne, the Southern poet? A man pure hearted, of generous im pulses and genuine genius. The truest Southern poet, rising above Ticknor, Poe, Simms or Lanier, im poverishing by the|war, lives in a veri table hut in Georgia forest, in ill health, which has followed him from child hood. It is to be hoped that the value of the poet’s labor will meet with substantial appreciation now that bis poems are published in a com plete form, and we should oe glad of the opportunity to testify our love for and admiration of the dainty grace anil sturdy culture of this sweet sin ger, about whose verses'Jingers an old World, and it may be a trifle old fashioned fragrant charm. Arteinus Ward iu a Boarding School. (Loir F- Hewitt, m Providence Pres*. The following morning was as rare , and funny as was Arteinus himself, lie could not resist an invitation tj visit the “Young Ladies” High School. While walking to the acade my a street runaway occurred. A tenified horse went tearing over the pavement with what Arteinus called “the fore.quarters” of a wagon clat tering at his heels. This incident Ar teinus ingeniously utilized ; n his ad dress. “The vehicular elopment which has just taken place, young la dies, has furnished tis with a timely topic of discourse. Young ladies’ seminaries are ever exposed to run a,ways. Once, when travelling with my show, 1 came upon a female in stitute. 'I here were ladders, anil lads, too, as to that, at every window. Many perpendiculars carrying fainting horizontals to the ground. “Fire I” 1 shouted. “None of that” replied a solemn voice from the orchard “ There ain’t no fire ; these are only young fellows running off with their sweethearts.” There is moral ent I - for man and beast in t Is runaway. No horse, if attached tola wagon, that is, if sincerely attached to it, will run away with it, but the more a young man is attached to a young woman, the more he will run away with her, leaving no traces, in fact none of the harness behind. Young ladies, since 1 have stood be fore your beautiful faces I have lost something, and if you or the boy that sweeps out should find a red ob ject, looking like a coral breast-pin tiiai b ■ been stepped on, you may know it is my poor, busted heart.” Simple Remedies.
