But a few years ago this firm com
menced its labors on a small scale—
To-day they are among the lending
merchants of the city. For quite a

Fine Opening for Investors.
Rapidly as onr city has grown nnd
is growing, the crying need has been
for more capital. Although over two
hundred and fifty dwellings have been
erected in the past two years, and a
dozen are now being built, there is a
demand for a large number in addi
tion. Twenty-five houses, worth
$1,000 to $1,600, conld be rented in u
week, if they were erected. Every
bouse erected for tenants in tbe past
two years, has been engaged before
completion, and many before tbe sills
were laid. There are twenty-five fam
ilies crowded in boarding houses now
who would, at once, rent if tbe build
ings were ready. Enquiries from
abroad arrive by nearly every mail,
for houses to rent. Of course new
comers, as d rule, do not want to
build uppp their Arrival, bat desire to
rent fonf.V time, with avltw V.'llNNpg

With development of bueinesJ by
tbe E. T. V. & G. Railroad (old M. &
B.), jost completed to Rom,
vast system o
and extension of B. & A. Road to Sel
ma, oar present prosperity will be in
creased to a first-class boom.
Dwelling and store bouses are rent-
land and booses' of twenty-three per-
ut., exclbsive of taxes, 'repairs and
usurance. If any city in tbe Sontb
can offer a better field for investment
in dwelling* and stores, that city is
indeed fortnnste. , _ Ouaxavxa.
It U Worth Remembering
That nobody enjoys tbe nicest sur-
if in bad health. There are
miserable people about to-day with
one foot in the grave, when a bottle
of Parker’s Ginger Tonic would do
them more good than all tbe doctors
and medicines they have ever tried.

OUR_CITY.
A Short Sketoh of Where and
What we are, for the Conve-
nience of Hasty Readers.
Brunswick is sitnated on Turtle
river, a bold and deep arm of Mie sea
that projects into tbe land, afibrJing
one of tbe finest land-locked harbors
on the Atlantic coast. We are con
nected by two lines of railroad with
all interior points, with New York by
steamship, with Nlft York aud Bos
ton by packet lines, and with Florida
and Savannah by steamboat. M ivnn
is distant from us 187 tuileR, Atlanta
about 280/Savannah 100, nnd Albany
171. Our population is nboot 4,000,
with a fair majority in favor of the
whites. Our colored population tire
as penceable and law-abiding as any
on the globe, and, for the most part
honest and industrious.
Our annual business, ns statements
published elsewhere will show, is very
large and constantly increasing.—
It is estimated that probably 600 ves
sels, will enter our port this year, each
of which, will carry away large quan
tities of native products to foreign
and coastwise ports. Qur wholesale
supply t business is comparatively a
new, venture, but has, in a very short
while, assumed large proportions, and
there is still abundant room for much
more, one of our greatest needs being
the establishment of a wholesale dry
goods bouse. Our retail trade is very
large, and, in keeping with onr town
and everytbipg connected with it,
is constantly on tbe increase. It ^
would be impracticable to attempt an
enumeration of the businesses or .en
terprises of our town, only a few of
the more prominent being mentioned
in this trade issue.
We have in successful. operation,
provided for by Statq law, publio
schools of a hjgh order (or fioth white

en churches, five of whiob ure owned
hy the white and six by the eolored
population, among which, are repre
sented the Episcopal, Methodist, Bap
tist,, Presbyterian and Roman Catho
lic denominations. We have an effi
cient municipal government, which is
rtided and sustained by a police force
of six men.. The Masons, Odd Fel
lows ,nnd .Knights of-Pythias have
each lodges here in successful opera-
tiop, besides many other organizations
looking to tbe sooial and financial
well-being of onr citizens. We have a
very neat opera hoase or poblie hall,
wbioh is fitted up aad arrunged $

Lastly, pur city is beautifully and
handsomely laid out in perfect form,
coveriug au area of about two square

beautified by some of tbe most beau
tiful groves of live oaks and cedars
that the sun ever shone upon. Room
is plentiful, and building materials 1

new comer may rest assured that he
will find a pleasant borne.
