No Legislator bas a rigbt to vote

It is tho sworn duty of Legislators to
look to tho interest of the Stiito and
not to that of individuals.
(Jetting Tired.
The colored people.of Newport are
getting heartily sick of Radical
promises. They tire of carrying their
white aUief into power on their backs
tttgl $jog left out in tbe cold
hpqe Ip fallowing reso-
lationm feoenMy adopted by them,
which by the way is but a reflex of
the growing sentiment of tbe whole
colored race. They are gradual!^
finding oat who are really their
friends:
Resolved, That the republican par

recognize the worthiness and faith
ful devotion of- its colored 'adherents;
that it continues to do so in the face
of earnest but respectful remonstran

Resolved, That while we cling to
those principles which have made the

nations, we affirm our determination
to support that person, let.bim be al

he shall convince us that he has tbe
most regard for our rights and feel
ings as citizens of the state.
Resolved, That we demand com
mon respect and a fair representation
in ibe apportionment of prominent
and other officeB ; not simply because
of tbe money considerations that usu
ally accompany office, but that it may
be seen that our class is respected and
deferred to ns are other citizens.
Resolved, That we hold in con

vote to be influenced by a tender of
money or auy other corrupting in

An ezcbange says : “Mr. Stephens

on bim in tbe matter. But a great
hue and cry is raised against Judge
Jackson because he permits bis friends
to advocate bis election to the Sen

The most shameless part of this busi
ness is, this hypocritical cry is beiug
raised by tbe supporters of Colquitt,
wbo bas been notoriously canvassing
for tho Senate for years—to the neg
lect of his.sworn duties.
