Andrew Fischer, an employo of tho Madras Railway company, was seated in the veranda of his bungalow and ob served two large cobras on the barren plain immediately in front, of tho house. Arming himself with a stout stick, ho proceeded to the spot and encountered the snakes. Ho succeeded in killing ono of them, while tho other, which had been slightly wounded, managed to escape. Mr. Fischer hunted about for the runaway, but could not find it. He then returned to his bungalow and rested for 6omo time, ns he was off duty. Later in the day he prepared to go to his work, and with that object got out his clothes to dress., Ho sat on his coat, and was about to put on his shirt when ho felt something bite him on tho back. Ho turned round, and to his horror found a snake on tho cot behind him, which ho is said to have recognized os tho cobra ho had wounded that morning. Ho imme diately sought relief, and all kinds of remedies were applied, but to no effect, and ho died in tho evening.
