SHORT COURSE FOR
CANNING CLUB GIRLS.
The county course for, canning club
girls was conducted last week at the
Bartow Rural High school. While the
number that attended was not so large
compared to the enrollment, it was
well attended for the first course of
the kind. The girls came from most
every section of the county where the
canning club work is appreciated by
the girls and their parents, Letters
came from many girls who wished to
attend but who were unavoidably kept
away, ft is regretted that many others
could not attend.
The girls were there almost ready
for work at the opening hour Wednes
day morning, having already obtained
and arranged their rooms in the dor
mitory for use for the three days. Af
ter a very appropriate opening exer
cise by Mr. Henry Milam, the superin
tendent of Bartow Rural High school,
the girls wejit earnestly to work, some
to preparing their lunch and others to
begin preparations for their canning.
The girls worked principally - on put
ting up the special products for their
exhibits at the fair this fall. The ex
hibit (Displayed at the close of the
ci urse showed how diligently the girls
Lad applied themselves. The speci
mens would have done credit to any
woman’s display.
Miss Era Proctor from the State
College of Agriculture spent Thurs
day and Friday helping with the work.
She gave the girls two lessons on the
cooking of vegetables, showing not on
ly the proper cooking but the various
ways in which they may be used. The
girls were also given instructions as
tc. the sewing connected with their
v ork.
On Thursday evening the canning
club girls were entertained by the local
club and the people of Euharlee at a
party on the lawn. To this the school
boys and school girls were invited and

Though the course was not just

much good was derived from it by all
who attended, ft it hoped by those
who have it in charge that it will be
an annual course, not only for canning

well. Several of our boys and girls
have enjoyed and derived great bene

State College cf Agriculture. Whv can
we not have something similar wh h
more of our boy® and girls may get?
The canning club members wish to
express, to all those who helped to
make this course |>ossible and pleas**

ciate more than we can sav the kind
ness of the Bartow Rural High school
in extending to us the use of their
buildings and equipment, and to each
individual member of the school and
community who helped us to enjoy it.
On Saturday morning the girls who
attended this course were brought to
town to join the other club members
in a club rally. The ciub rally was
thoroughly enjoyed by all those pres
ent. The talks of the local people were
very appropriate and much appreciat
ed by the boys and girls. The hoys and
sirls arc always glad to have Dr! Brad
ford from Gedartown with them. We
feel that he is a father to us all in
the club work. After lunch all the
hoys, and girls were treated to a trip
tc the moving picture show, where
they not only saw the daily picture,
but pictures from the State College of
Agriculture.
Canned Goods For Sale.
During the spring the club women,
the merchants, the bankers, the doc
tor®, the lawyers, the preachers, many
housewives, in fact nearly everybody
in Cartersville became very much in
terested in a larger production of food
stuffs, by the farmers of Bartow coun
ty. Conferences were held, committees
were appointed, campaigns over the
county were held. It was well and
wise that this all he done because of
the shortage of food stuffs at that
time. Now after about four and one
half months’ time we find that the peo
ple on the farms have responded to
this call nobly. They are to be con
gratulated on the amount of food
stuffs they have to show for their ef-

J the history of Bartow county have as
many canned goods been put up. The
canning club girl® have as a lule had
splendid gardens. The most of them
tried to preserve their surplus vegeta

of them have these products for sale.
Are you as residents of Bartow coun

1 You may have enough canned gtwxfs
to last you a while, but why not ray

can get them and accommodate the
ones who have the products for sale?
This department appreciates very
much the loyal support that has been

Winter Gardening.
It is hoped that our winter gardens
are already started. It is necessary
that every one he just as alarmed now
about food stuffs for winter as we
were last April. The fresh vegetables
from the garden in winter time are
very necessary In onr diet. Many
filings can be planted yet.
Our Exhibit at the Fair.
This is just to remind the canning
club and poultry club members that
, U Is only almut five weeks until their
i exhibits must lie ready to show what
;we have done during the year. We
may not lie ready now, but much can
| be done An this length of time. I want
[ tc urge each of you to look over your
i exhibit lists, see what you must have
1 and get those things ready that you
have not arranged. You will probably
he visited before fair time, but do not
I wait until that visit to begin to do the
things that you should. Write and ask
any questions that you like. Remem
ber that this must lie the-best exhibit
we have ever had because we believe
ihe Ixiys and girls have done the best
year’s work they have ever dome.
So many i>eopie start out with a big
aim, work hard and fail to finish np
their work. ‘•Sticktoitiveness” is a
good characteristic. Have you this
trait? Your garden may not have been
just what you would like for it to have
benv; your chick; l may have all
died. At the same time you can make
your report and do what you can. Let
in- say to the grown |>eople or the older
people help the girls and boys in your
community or with whom you come in
contact to wind up their year's work
like men and women should.

YES! LIFT A CORN
OFF WITHOUT PAIN 1
Cincinnati Authority Tells How to
Dry Uy a Corn or Callus 30 It
Lifts Off With Fingers.
You corn-pestered men and women
need suffer no longer. Wear the shoes
that nearly killed yon before, says this
Cincinnati authority, because a few
drops of freezone applied directly on
a tender, aching corn or callus, stops
soreness at once and soon the corn or
%
hardened callus loosens so it can be
lifted out, root and all, without pain.
A small bottle of freezone cost very
little at any drug store, but will posi
tively take off every hard or soft corn
or callus. This should be tried, as it
is inexpensive and is said not to irri
tate the surrounding skin.
If your druggist hasn’t any freezone
tell him to get a small bottle for you
from his wholesale drug house. It is
fine stuff and acts like a charm every
time.—(advt.)
