WILL MAKE GEORGIA
RICHEST STATE IN COUNTRY.
Atlanta, Ga., January 12. —All ex
cise for keeping Atlanta a smoky city
las been removed by establishment
of the immense water power at Tallu
lah, according to a statement made by
b. M. Hall, consulting engineer of At
lanta, in an address before the me
chanical science and engineering de
partment of Georgia Tech.
Mr. Hall points out that within a
100 mile radius around Atlanta there
i- 1,153,000 horsepow'er, and that with
in a radius of 150 miles the available
horsepower runs over three millions.
The part that this wonderful devel
opment and the tower lines of the
Georgia Railway & Pov/er company
v'ill play in the future upbuilding of
Georgia, Mr. Hail said was so great
that it could not be estimated. If prop
erly utilized it will make Georgia the
richest manufacturing state in the
whole country, and at the same time
v ill play a great part in the develop
ment of cities and the improvement
of municipal conditions.
FOR THE HOME TOWN.
if the town has a lot of vacant
stores, idle factories, mills running on
half time, there can be no substantial
value to property. Therefore, to keen
the stores rented, the dwellings occu
pied and a general good tone to prop
et ty values it is necessary that you
g*ve to your home people your entire
support. Patronizing mail-order houses
'a not altogether limited to poor peo
ple or to farmers or to people who do
not know' the hurt they are doing the
home town, but it is a common prac
tice among certain well-known, well
to-do-men. I believe this Is more the
result of thoughtlessness and of be
ing misled by embellished and highly
exaggerated descriptions than through
a spirit of antagonism to the home
merchant. Moreover, I firmly believe
that when you think over this matter
seriously and carefully, analyizing it
in every detail, hereafter you will give
your home merchant your trade. —

READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE MAKIN YOUR RETURNS,
AND THE LIST CAREFULLY BEFORE FILLING OUT.
I am required to administer the prescribed oath to every one (except sick and; infirm persons and non-residents
and females who can take and subscribe to the oath before any officer authorized, to administer oath.) I will be
compelled to refuse to accept any return not duly and regu.artv sworn to. I am not allowed to copy any returns from
ast year’s digest. All property of every description, money, evidence of debt, etc., held on the Ist day of January
1914, must be returned at the fair market value. It is the duty of every freeholder or agent to make returns of the
names of all tax payers on their premises on January Ist, rnd especially of ail colored tax payers between the ages
of 21 and 60. Answer every question on the list. All city or town property must be returned, giving its location,
street, etc. The Christian names of all tax payers must be given and returns must not be intermingled with that of
o.her persons. Many changes have been made which will appear by reading the tax lists carefully. And according
to the act of the General Assembly of 1913, I must close nr.y books on the Ist day of May and tun the same over to
ike Tax Board of Commissioners. Hence the importance of giving in your tax before May Ist to avoid a double tax
by the Board of Tax Commissioners. I trust all persons will give their returns careful attention and avoid trouble
r or themselves and the tax receiver. My instructions are imperative and I will be compelled to reject returns not
made out and filled as the law requires. By an act of the General Assembly, approved August 22, 1905, I am required
i to take a census of all Confederate soldiers and the widows of Confederate soldiers who reside in Georgia on Ist
| cav of January, 1914, and to give the name of the company and regiment which the soldier of the dead husband of
the widow served, and the time and place of enlistment and when and where discharged. This is important to these
pe'sons and I ask their attention and the attention of their friends.
