CLUB AND HOME
DEMONSTRATION WORK.
(Left cut last week.)
Avery busy and profitable week |
v, as spent last week at the State Nor- |
nial School at Athens by Misses Jessie |
Burton and Kathryn Florence attend
ing a course for the North Georgia
Home Demonstration Agents. Miss
Lois Dowdle, our agent for North Geor- |
gia, had this- course in charge and she
i. to be commended for the splendid
program arranged for and so success
fully carried out.
Aside from the lecturers and in
stiuctor.; furnished by the State Col
lege of Agriculture and the State Nor
mal School, we were given the privi
lege of having with us Dr. Straughn,
of the Bureau of Chemistry, Washing
ton, D. C., who taught especially the
pr< serving and jelly making, and Miss
Ola Powell, assistant in Home Demon
stration Work, Washington, D. C. Miss
Powell stressed the special tomato
and pepper products.
We have known all along that if
We followed certain processes in pre
serving and jelly making that certain
results would be obtained, but Dr.
Straughn explained to us in such a
practical way the whys and where
fores of so many of these processes
that now they are much more inter
esting and satisfactory. We are very
anxious to share with all who wish it I
what little information we may have
gained. Let everyone please remem- |
her that we are in this position for
service and we will be glad to give
all that we are capable of giving.
Miss Kathryn Florence has been en
gaged bv Miss. Burton to assist in the
Home Demonstration Work for this
summer. Miss Florence is the Domes
tic Science teacher at the Bartow Ru
ral High School. She is capable of giv- j
ing excellent help in her line if she *
is called upon.
A scries of demonstrations will he
held over the county beginning with
next Tuesday. •
The various club members are be
ing visited as rapidly as possible. We
hope to see all the Pig, Corn and Can
ning Club members at an early date
closing this first visiting tour with a
big general meeting of all the mem
bers at the court house at Carters
ville on June 3d.
Some of our members are getting
a little discouraged on account of this
continued drouth. Real club members
do not get discouraged to the point of
giving up even though the b’lg diffi-*
culties do come. We know we are
stronger when we overcome difficul
ties and opposition. We are making
stronger citizens for Bartow county
in our club work.
