The U. D. C. met in the club room
Tuesday afternoon of last week when
they held their first meeting of the fa-1.
New officers were elected as follows:
President, Miss Mamie Jones; First
Vice-President, Mrs. John Adair; Sec
ond Vice-President, Mrs. Ah Monfort;
Treasurer, Mrs. W. J. Ham; Corres
ponding Secretary, Mrs. J. N. Weems;
Registrar, Miss Hula Whitehead; His
torian, Mrs. Marian Greene.
The next meeting will be held the
first Tuesday in October. The presi
dent will preside and a full attendance
is urged.

The Etowah Chapter D. A. R. will
meet on Tuesday, September 19th. The
hostess will be announced later.
Class in Expression.
Miss Minnie King, of Adairsville,
has spent part of this week in Car
tersville in the interest of a class in
expression and physical culture which
she expects to begin here soon. Miss
King comes highly recommended for
her splendid work and it will be an
excellent opportunity for many who
desire lessons in expression and physi
cal culture. She will teach on Tues
days and Fridays at the West Side
school and her price will he s3.Of) per

Birthday Party.
Little Miary Gemas will celebrate
her birthday on Thursday afternoon
at her home in West End.

In Honor of Mrs. Howington.
Mrs. J. W. Johnson and Mrs. Sam
Verner were hostesses at a picture
show partly cm Friday afternoon in
honor of their cousin, Mrs. Howington,
of Jacksonville, Fla. After the picture
show, the party was entertained at the
home of Mrs. Vernar.
The guests were Mrs. Keith. Mrs.
W. A. Brown, Misses Maxle Maffett,
Clyde Galt,, Jessie May Ginn.
ROOK.
Mrs. Jack Hill and Miss Mildred
Lewis were hostesses at a delightful
rook party on Wednesday afternoon
and there were four tables of rook.
Mrs. Cliff Dodgem a.ud Mrs. Robert
Maxwell scored the game.
The first prize, correspondence
card®, went to Miss Maggie Irick, and
the consolation, a crepe de chine hand
kerchief, fell to Mrs. Cliff Dodigen.
An elaborate salad course was serv
