VCL. 3 DontMiss the CJreaf Horse Show each night during the l air * THE BARTOW TRIBUNE ALL READY FOR WEEK OF JOY AND FESTIVAL Great Fair Ready For Opening And Business Flouses to Close So That All Can Enjoy Brilliant Events For Four Days And Nights. What promises to be the greatest county fair ever held in the history of Bartow county will begin next Tues- ! day morning, October 10, and extend through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, day and night. The business houses of Cartersville will close each day at one o clock, which is the hour the racing begins, and at which time the greatest crowds assemble at the tai. grounds. The clerks and employees, as well as the proprietors, wish to attend the after noon features of the fair, which in cludes fine racing, and to that extent also co-operate with the fair managers in bringing to the fair grounds as many people as possible. The city will be thronged with visi tors from all over the county as well as from Atlanta, Rome, Chattanooga and points between, and everything looks favorable for a most successful fair in every respect. With a week of fair weather, it is predicted that un precedented crowds will be In attend ance and the fair managers predict that each and every one will be pleas ed with what is exhibited and what is put on fin the w. n y 0 f amusement. The reduced price of entrance tick ets, now being sold at 25 cents each,will be an added inducement to a large at tendance. Those with large families can afford to take all of them into the fair grounds with an entrance fee of only 25 cents each, whereas, many con sider fifty cents a burdensome charge and one which as to large families amounts to a formidable sum of mon ey. No charge will be made at the gates for automobiles if parked in an area provided for the purix>se which | will not in any way interfere with or I obstruct the management of the fair ior the view of the spectators. How ever, if those who enter in automo biles wish to remain in their cars, they can drive them withiiin the race track enclosure by paying a fee of fifty cents for runabouts and a dollar for touring cars. These will be pro vided with space which will give the occupants of the cars an excellent view of the races. This space will be in front of the grand stand along the race track streffth alongside the inside rail. It is predicted that scores of cars will use this space. The grand stand has been greatly enlarged and a 25 cents admission charge to the grand stand will be made this year. The directors believe that the grand stand will be crowded as in former years and even more so, and that during the afternoons and evenings this portion of the fair will bt a scene of activity and brilliancy and popular assemblage which will give additional evidence of the gener al esteem and iropular estimation of the Bartow County Fair. It is believed that a tremendous at tendance will be present at the first day of the fair this year. The fair managers claim that no one day has any superiority in interest over any other day and, hence, a large attend ance on the first day will furnish those who go as much entertainment as attendance upon any other day. and that it will further serve to make more popular the attendance upon all \ days of the fair. The fair is on and Cartersville citi- 1 zens, old and young, rich and i>oor, of j all degrees, are expected to co-operate ! in making this great occasion one of memorable interest to the people of j the county. The horse show at the fair grounds this year promises to be one of the best and largest ever held in the south. Coming during the week be tween the horse show at Knoxville and the horse show in Atlanta, Carters viile will thus be favored with the best show horses of Tennessee, Geor gia and Alabama. In fact, all the horses that will be shown in Atlanta will, with few exceptions, be shown at CartersvAlle, while many of the horses at the Knoxville show will like wise be here. In addition to this will be local horses and those from Rome, Chattanooga and Birmingham. Ex perienced riders, famed far and wide for their grace and exce’lent horse manship, will be here and will have as their mounts these famous show horses of the south. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ezelle, of Nash ville, bringing with them twenty horses, Miss Margaret McKee and Miss Mary Allgood Jones, of Atlanta, bringing with them three jumpers, as well as other famous drivers and rid ers, will lend their presence to this occasion ns active participants in the events each night. It promises to be a great social event. Asa result of the fact that a horse show will he put on, many pri vate social affairs have been arranged and men and women of prominence THE AEREAL STONES in their great Ladder Exhibition at Bartow County Fair CARTERSVILLE, GA., OCTOBER 5, 191: from a distance will be here no S'PCCtE* | tors of the show and guests of honor at the social affairs to be given. The horse show will take place iln front of the grand stand each evening. The track will be brilliantly lighted with strings of electric lights and band music will be furnished. Cartersville gave its first horse •shew 4*2* year and it proved to be so popular, as it does everywhere, tit was put on this year for four nights. In deed, there was a call for it last year for another night, but arrangements had only been made for the one even ing and, hence, it was impossible to repeat the performance. This year, however, it will take place every night. Fifteen cents admission at the gate will be charged and 25 cents admis sion to the grand stand and paddock, and it is predicted that the largest night crowds ever on the fair grounds will be in the paddock enclosure. Confederate Veterans’ Day at the county fair will be next Thursday. In addition to the exercises attend ing the day generally there will be a fiddlers convention. Many of Georgia’s famous fiddlers will be on hand and a great treat will be in store for those who attend and who like to hear the fiddler fiddle. The fiddlers will be giv en a place of honor and prominence An the grand stand and all who aie about the reserved section will be favored with the best of break downs, popular 3.1 sand the many stunts that fiddlers can do with their instruments. The veterans are asked to assem ble at the i>ark in front of the Park Hotel at 10 o'clock. They will be con veyed to the fair grounds. At the park they will be given badges which will gain for them free admission to the grounds. All confederate veterans of Bartow county, or those who entered the con federate service from this county, are entitled to the privileges of the day. Capt. J. J. Calhoun has been delegated tc be master of services and this will !>■ assurance that all preliminaries will be well attended to. Sami. W. Wilkes, of Atlanta, has been, invited and has accepted the .in vitation to deliver the address, which will be at the fair grounds. Mr. Wilkes is a. native of Bartow county, was one time agent of the Western & Atlantic railroad at Allatoona and has now risen to a place of influence and power in the rajlrcad world. He is the Divis ion Freight Agent of the Georgia, Rail road and his selection for the place of f rator of the day was well and appro priately bestowed and Mr. Wilkes will measure the requirements of the occasion. The local chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy will have in charge the arrangements as to the comfort of the veterans. Lunch will be served and a general good time has been ar ranged. This w>iii be free of expense to the veterans and it is earnestly hoped that they will all be here at this time. A great crowd will be on hand on this day. Heretofore it has always been the record day for attendance. The racing, and all other features of the fair, will be particularly interest ing and every one who can should make it a point to be on hand. It wiiill be an opportunity to pay a tribute of i respect to the heroes of the Host Cause | as well as receiving a full day’s pay j in amusement and eoiertaHviuent, to eay nothing of exhilaration and infor mation. Great interest is being taken in the school fair and woman’s exhibit. The corn club boys, as well as the canning club girls, will have on hand an unusually interesting display. To gether with the exhibit of the corn club boys will be their records which furnish valuable data, showing the j progress made during the year. Not withstanding the disturbing elemental troubles had in the middle of the sea son from floods and excessive rains, these boys will show the mettle they are made of and that it takes intelli gent work to bring about what they have accomplished. Canning Clubs. Entitled to the highest praise will be the girls' canning club exhibits. Miss Jessie Burton has given this de partment of school work her usual in telligent and energetic attention, and site will have every reason to be pos sessed with laudable pride when the exhibits of the girls’ canning clhbs are set out at the fair. Together with this will be the records. Those who have seen the canned fruits and veg etables are unstinted in their praise and make the unqualified assertion (Continued on page twelve.)
