OLD PECAN TREE WAS
BROUGHT LONG WAY.
Probably the oldest pecan tree in
the state is on the pfiaee of C. N.
Smith, five miles from Plains, in the
17th v district. This tree has a history
tc it, too. The Smith place now, was
formerly the Wise place, and way back
in the fifties, as near as our informant
can remember, 1857, Mrs. A. D. M.

horseback, and upon her return
brought the i>ecan. tree which was at

has been bearing every year since it
first started to bear. The tree con
tinues to bear pecans and more and
more every year. The nut is a 'large
one, and it might be said that this tree
has been bearing pecans for the past
fifty years. The pecan tree is well
known about Plains, and the nuts are
known as the pecans that grow on the
‘old Wise place,” which is advertise
ment enough for them at Plains-.
