Under government regulation, flour
has keen brought to $13 per barrel,
a saving or $3.50 per barrel to tho
consumer, and the price of wheat Is a
fixed one of $2.20 per bushel.
Figures compiled by the govern
ment show there are 625,000 families
of the accepted average of five to each
family in Georgia. The average con
sumption of flour per family is four
barrels per annum, of a total of 2,
500.000 barrels of flour in Georgia ea.'h
year. The reduction in the price of
ftou r to the consumer of $3.50 per
barrel on four barrels a year to each
of the 625,000 families <n this state
runs up to $8,750,000 saved In Georgia
in one year under food control regu
lations.
Then, there Is another side to th9
operation of this system. Before the
government took charge of the vvho.it
and flour situation tho price to the
consumer was governed by speculation
and bad already reached $16.50 per
barrel, with every Indication that it
would havo gone to any higher figure
speculators could force ft; probably
more than $20. At that time and un
der that condition, the farmer was
getting $1.40 per bushel for Ills wheat

process of regulating the raw and
f.nished product, fixed tha price of
wheat at $2.20 per bushel. Under the
