Estimates totalling more than thirteen
and a half million dollars for the
prosecution of the war during 1919,
and involving the most stupendous ap
iproprlatlons In the history of tbo na
tion, were submitted to congress to
day by tho treasury department.
In round figures the estimates in
clude the appropriation of more than
eleven billion dollars for war pur
poses alono, whereas no previous es
timate for similar purposes has ever
exceeded two billions. Only a part
of this money l 8 proposed to be rais
ed by taxation, the remainder to bo
derived from the sale of additional lib
erty bonds.
Among appropriations for the con
tinuation of work already authorized,
the following are included In the es
timates submitted by the treasury de.
partment: Dawson, Ca.. 333,000; Dou
glas, Ga., 330,000; Washington, Ga..
$9,000; West Point, Ga., $9,500.
Military Appropriations Asked.

before congress when the administra
tion estimates covering only strictly
