NEWNAN, FRIDAY, APRIL 3.
OMB DOLLAR A YEAR
IN AnvANC*.
M'COLLUM.
(Brought over from I..I wee*,)
Our community is mourning the death
of Mr. Allen West, one of Coweta’s
most estimable citizens, which occurred
last Wednesday afternoon, after a
week's illness of pneumonia. He is sur
vived by his wife and ten children. Mr.
West was a (food man and a good neigh
bor. A short while before the end came
he called his loved ones to his bedside
and expressed a willingness to go. Told
them he did not fear death; that there
was nothing in his way. Told them
what to do, how to live, and gave in
structions where to bury him and whom
he wished to preach his funeral. The
bereaved family have the sympathy of
the entire community in their sad af
fliction.
McCollum Sunday-school iB progress
ing nicely now, with a fine attendance.
Everybody is invited to attend and help
along the good work.
Mr. John Ellis, of Cave Spring, spent
Saturday and Sunday with his brother,
El Ellis.
We regret to note that Mrs. Sam
Bradley is confined to her bed with a
severe attack of la grippe.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hines Bpent a
few days last week at McDonald, Ga.
Mrs. Callie May Phillips and children,
Mr. and Mrs. Joe West and family, and
other relatives from Atlanta, attended
the funeral of Mr. AIIcb West last
Thursday.
Mr. Jim Thompson visited UnionCity
' one day last week.
The singing given by Mr. and J. E.
Hanks Sunday night was much enjoyed
by the young people.
Mr. Sam Hradley spent Sunday with
homefolks here.

LONE OAK.
(Brought over from lout week.)
Services at Protpect last Sundny
were conducted by the paator, Rev. C.
L. Brunch, but the inclemency of the
weather prevented the attendance of
as large a congregation as usual.
Mr. J. 0. Sewell, of Grantville, at
tended services at ProBpect Sunday.
Misses Fields and Allison, of St.
Marks, fcwore guests of Lone Oak
friends iBst Sunday and attended preach
ing at Prospect.
Mrs. Burks Nall, after visiting her
daughter, Mrs. Trumie Elliott, at
Harnesville, and Mrs. Alvan McDonald,
of Raymond, have returned home.
The hearts of the relatives and many
friendB of the parents were saddened
this morning to learn of the death of
the dear little bahy boy who came last
Sunday morning to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Charlie Lee. For three brief
days he was permitted to linger with
those whose love would have ever sur
rounded it, but awakening hopes were
doomed to an early disappointment. Its
hold upon life proved too frail, and the
"silver cord was loosed” before it had
learned of love and joy. The devoted
young parents have the sympathy of
all in their sad bereavement. May the
sweet spirit of resignation to the
Heavenly Father be as balm to their
hearts,Iwith the assurance that "it is
well with the child," and help them to
preparo for a reunion with their dear
one in that home where sin and sorrow
are unknown.

A schoolmaster, wishing to impress
upon his class the great population of
China, said: "The population of China
is so great that two Chinamen die
every time you take a breath.”
This information made a deep im
pression upon his young pupils, partic
ularly one small boy at the foot of the
class. His face waa Mushed and he was
puffing furiously.
"What is the matter?” inquired the
j schoolmaster, with alarm. "What on
earth are you doing, Tommy?”
"Killing Chinamen, sir,” was the
answer.

True Graclousneaa.
Real graclousiieBH is a virtue exer
cised, not a virtue ussumed. We have
to go buck to St. Paul's epIstloB to bo
reminded that ehnrlty, which Is really
love, unselflshiiuss and which "suf-
fereth long and Is kind,” "vaunteth
not Itself, is not pufTed up," Is at the
root of all courtesy nnd graciousness.
It needs constant practice. It has to
be willed often in look, or word, or
act whon the inclination Is against
It, but If practiced faithfully It blos-

Love is the flower of the Boul. It is
the holiest and sweetest of the heart-
forces which prompt our actions. It is
more precious to most men and women
than all the wealth in the world, because
priceless; it is one of the joys of
heaven. Though without price, love is
a gift, and can bear no relation to sel
fishness, Love is the sweetest, pur
est, and yet the strongest of all human
influences. It will endure suffering,
withstand trials and overcome tempta
tions. Love lifts us out of our sordid
selves, and then, only then, we realize
that the outgoing of our love and help
fulness is but the incoming of "a peace
which passeth understanding"— a joy
which tills the fountains of the heart.
Flower* That Yield Soap.
English countryfolk, on occasion,
•till find substitutes for soap among
the wild flowers of the hedgerow.
The best of these Is the soapwort,
which contains n mucilaginous Juloe
which lathers freely, but nlmoBt equal
ly good for washing purposes are the
corn cockle, the wild lychnis, the
scarlet pimpernel, nnd the ramlliar

Education.
Education is the whole effect of en
vironment. The Individual is In eomo
way ufteeted by everything with
which he comes in contact, from the
first moment of life until the end.
Teaching is therefore a factor in
evolution. It is a means of carrying
on the development of the Individual.
