NEWNAN, FIRDAY, SEPT. 18
LOCALS DROUGHT FORWARD.
Mr. .John D. Johnson, of Turin, who
was carried to Johns Hopkins Hospital,
Baltimore, about ten days apo, under
went an operation at that institution
Monday morning. His physician, Dr.
T. B. Davis, who was present at the
operation and who returned from Balti
more Wednesday afternoon, says Mr.
Johnson passed through the ordeal
safely and was doing well when he left
Tuesday night.
Mr. Clarence Wiison, who entered
the U. S. Navy four years ago, has
completed his term of service, and re
turned this week to his home at More
land. He was assigned to duty on the
battleship “Kansas” as an electrician,
and during the entire four years never
had a demerit mark against him. He
has visited nearly every port in the
world, and his experiences would till a
good-sized book.
Owing to a serious falling off of both
freight and passenger traffic, due to
conditions brought about by the Euro
pean war, the A., B. & A. railroad has
asked permission of the Railroad Com
mission to discontinue passenger trains
Nos. 15 and 16, operating between Man
chester and Atlanta, and passing Se-
noia for Atlanta at 9:28 a. m., and at
4:35 p. m. for Manchester. — Senoia En
terprise-Gazette.
Messrs. P. F. Cuttino & Co. an
nounce that from now until Nov. 1 they
will pay 10c. a pound for good cotton
lor as much as their customers are in
debted to the firm, either on note or
account. The firm proposes further
that, where parties owe nothing, cotton
will be accepted at 10c. a pound and
credit given for full amount, to be
traded out at the seller’s convenience.
See announcement on another page.
Warehouse Notice.—We have con
verted our standard-built warehouse
into a cotton warehouse. We have
made application for a bond, and as
soon as the necessary formalities can
be complied with bonded receipts for
cotton stored with us will be issued,
fully insured. Loss, if any, will be
payable to a responsible trustee for the
benefit of the holder of the ticket.
Store your cotton with us and we will
guarantee security and satisfaction.

Referring last week to a reduction of
the tax-rate by the City Council from
$1.25 to $1 per hundred, we stated that
the higher rate named had been in
force for several years. This was an
error, and an injustice to the former
•administrations as well. As a matter
of fact the SI.25 rate was in effect last
year for the first time under any ad
ministration, and imposed then only to
meet an emergency such as probably
will not arise again in many years. We
make this correction with pleasure.
Mr. J. W. Cole, who was lately ap
pointed a postoffice inspector, is prov
ing his efficiency in that responsible po
sition. His first case of importance
was the apprehension of a rural route
carrier at West Point, charged with
using the mails for fraudulent purposes.
Two weeks ago he “turned up” the
postmaster at Mean3ville, Pike county,
who was found short in his money or
der account to the amount of $1,600 or
$1,800, the shortage covering a period
of several months. Both delinquents
were bound over to the Federal Court.
Children’s Day a Great Occasion.—
Tuesday was children’s day at the
Johnson Hardware Co.’s. Over tw»
hundred children and ladies of Newnan
visited our store and received souve
nirs of the “Great Majestic Range.”
Moreover, all had a a good time, and
greatly enjoyed the lunches served
them, consisting of hot coffee, biscuits
and cake. Mr. Dowdy, the “Great
Majestic Range” demonstrator, will be
with us all the week. Come in and let
him show you the fine cooking qualities
of this matchless range.

—We heard a great deal said at the
State Convention about “Progressive
Democracy,” and occasionally some one
was referred to as a “reactionary.”
After a study of these terms as applied
in Georgia we find them to mean just
this—no more, no less. If you will
agree with Hoke Smith and allow him
to do your thinking, and you do his bid
ding, you are a Progressive Democrat.
On the other hand if you do not agree
with and vote for Mr. Smith and others
that he would have you support, then
you are a “reactionary. ”—Hawkinsville
News-Dispatch.
The county tax-rate for 1914 has been
assessed at $1.15 per $100. This, added
to the State levy of 45c. and the school
district tax of 50c.. makes a total levy
for the eounty of $2.10, and of $1.60 in
the districts which levy no local school
tax. It is some 90c. lower than in the
last two or three years, but the prop
erty tax this year is over $300,000 more
than last year, and very little compara
tively has been put into road-building.
Yet the county debt has been wiped
out, and with a clean sheet for the new
year we should be able to see a vast
amount of road work done in 1915.—

Why Should I Smoke
TUXEDO?
GEO. CURRY
ex (iovernor. New Mexico
Tuxedo appeals to we strongly
on account of its cool, mild, pleas
ant flavor. Therein lies its super
iority to all other tobaccos. ”
T UXEDO is the logical smoke for million
aires because it is impossible to buy a
better tobacco.
Tuxedo is the logical smoke for the eco
nomical man because there are HO pipefuls
in a ten-cent tin—making the average cost
per pipeful only one-fourth of a cent!
To buy cheaper tobacco means to get
less pleasure out of smoking, because it is
impossible to make a tobacco as good as
Tuxedo at less than the Tuxedo price!
STANTON WARBURTON
Cmurressmun. Stale of Washington
“My ou'n experience leads me to
believe that every desirable quality
is present in Tuxedo Tobacco. U
is the best smoke I ever had. ”
The Perfect Tobacco for Pipe and Cigarette
Tuxedo is made of only the finest, choic
est selected leaves of perfectly aged Burley
tobacco. It is made by the original Tuxedo
process which takes all the ^pleasantness out
of tobacco and leaves ail the pleasantness in!
Tuxedo has a deliciously mild, fragrant
aroma that is pleasant to all. It is the only
ft tobacco you can smoke in a room full of lace
curtains without leav
ing even a trace of an
odor.
A trial will con
vince you that Tuxedo
is superior to every
other tobacco you
have ever smoked.
