ACTUAL PRICE OF COTTON 18 8 1-2 CENT8 According to well informed cotton houses the actual price of cotton is about one cent 4iigher than the quota tions on the stook market. The situation is a peculiar oue and shows that the holding movement, in augurated by the Southern Cotton As sociation, has already had a tremendous effect upon the price of cotton and that the only cotton actually being sold to bringing as high as 8% oents per pound. An inquiry of a well known cotton firm Monday as to what one hundred bales of cotton conld be purchased for brought forth the information that this firm would not undertake to get the cotton for less than 8K cents, though the New Orleans exohange was quoting the price at 7 9-16c. The owner of several cotton mills also stated that he was offering 8 cents per pound, but was failing to get any deliveries at this price. Slowly but surely the farmers and producers are getting control of the situation and the indications each day are strongly in favor of the price being restored to 10 cento. The farmers are carrying out in good faith the measures adopted at the New Orleans convention and are actually keeping their cotton off of the market, waiting until the price shall react.—Atlanta Journal. “THE OXFORD AFFAIR” The above caption is the title of an amusing farce-comedy which will be presented at the Auditor ium at an early date by eight charming young ladies of the city.
