Annual commencement of Hutcheson
College began last Sunday morning,
when the Rertnon was preached by Rev
C. M. Liphatn, of Fairburn. His theme
was,“The Forces that Mako Character.”
His sermon was listened to by a large
ooncourso of people. The day was an
ideal one, filled with heaven’s sweetest
sunshine and earth’s loveliest breezes,
accompanied by the song birds’ dearest
and most charming music. A number
of noted singers were present, and added
much interest and enthusiasm to tho
program of music. The song service
began at i):!)0 o'clock and continued for
45 minutes. At 10:15 both Bundzy
Schools of the town assembled at, the
college hull for a union service. After
a brief exercise, the next hour wns de
voted to the preaching service. In the
afternoon a special song servioe was
held from 2 to 4, in honor of tile visit
ing singers. Rev. W. A. Parks preached
Sunday night.
On Monday at. 10a. in.,the commence
ment exorcises were resumed, with a
literary entertainment by the Phi Kappa
Society, which is composed of the young
men of the High School. This program
was good, being interspersed with a
number of very amusing and original
songs. After these exercises, the orator
of the day, Congressman W. O. Adam
son, was introduced liy one of Carroll's
representatives elect,Hon. H. ,1. Reaves,
I of Roavesville. Judge Adamson was ill

on Wednesday nigiit by Hon. E. T.
Bleed, of Villa Rica. The subject of
bis address was, “The Strength aud
Bourco of the Patriot’s Hope.” It was
u most masterly effort, aud won for the
speaker uew aud additional laurels. He
showed that there were three leading
sins of which man wus most easily a
victim; namely, appetite, love of wealth
and ambition. Mr. Bleed drew some
very pathetio pictures ot modern day
victims of each of those three tempta
tions. His stroug and pointed sjieueii
will linger long with people who heard
him.
