Mr. Frank Menendez and Miss
Maud Britt, both of this city, were
quietly married in Moreland on
July 21st, at the residence of Mr.
Joe Murphy. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. Frank i^uil-
lian. Mrs. Menendez is the daugh
ter of Mrs. Minnie Britt and Mr.
Menendez is one of the employes
of the Manget Cigar Factory.
Mrs. Gena Bartlett, the wife of
J. (’. Bartlett, died at the family
residence, 88 Payne street, Sunday
morning. Funeral services were
conducted at the residence Mon
day afternoon at 8 o’clock. The
body will be taken to Newnan
Tuesday morning at H o’clock for
interment. She is survived by
her husband and two children.—

in Gordon Institute at Bartlesville.
He will have charge of classes in
physics, chemistry and mathemat
ics. Miss Ora Martyn, formerly
one of the most popular teachers

Mr. Jack Powell’s friends regret
to hear of his serious illness, which
j made it necessary to remove him
to a sanitarium in Atlanta this
1 week. It is thought that lie is af-
l Dieted with appendicitis, and that
a surgical operation will he neces
sary to save his life. However, it
was reported Tuesday in this city
that no operation had been per
formed, and that Mr. Powell’s con
dition was improving. Mrs. Pow
ell is in Atlanta with her husband.
The month of July proved a
record-breaker for the Southern
School of Telegraphy. Fourteen
young men from the several South
ern states joined this well-known
institution last month and twenty
graduates were placed into posi
tions with different railroads.

precarious condition, to the sorrow
of his many friends, lie has been
in a critical condition for several
weeks and no improvement is per
ceptible. *

The general meeting of the Fourth
Distriot Western Baptist Association
convened at Hlnirpshurg last Friday at
10:JJO o’clock. Dr. G. A. Nuunally
preached the introductory sermon, after
which Hhurpsharg’s hospitable people
entertained those present with an enjoy
able barbecue. The meeting continued
until Holiday evening. Messrs. W. L.
Taylor, 'J'. H. Carlton, W. D. Herndon
and Dr. J. B. Wood represented Haral
son olmrcli. Mrs. T. H, Carlton accom
panied her husband as representative of
the Woman’s Missionary Society. The
politicians were there also. The latter
class, we are glnd to note had a very
small audience, while the meeting house
was full of workers for God and and
His cause.
Kev. Albert L. Dniistou, missionary
to Brazil from Georgia, very highly en
tertained the overflowing house with an
exposition of gospel truth, after which a
collection was taken up to defray the
educational exiienses of a young Brazil
ian in a Georgia preparatory school.
The Haralson Baptist church will
meet in God’s uame the first Sunday in
August at 9:80 o'clock to organize a
Sabbath school. Now let parents and
children meet promptly and spend one
hour studying God’s word.

State Report on Cotton.
The monthly report of t.he Btate
Department of Agriculture for the
) month of July shows that the total
average of cotton for the Btate is
71 1-3 per cent, and that of corn
; 89 1-3 per cent. Cotton has fallen
from an average condition of 85
per cent, to 71 per cent.
