Night Riders War on Money
Lenders.
The night riders of SalliBaw county,
Oklahoma, have concentrated their ne-
fariouB activities in a war upon curtain
money-lenders, and especially upon cer-
local bankers.
One of the bankers, R. W. Hines,
rents farms to many farmers through
out the county, and the Workmen’s
Class Union, reputed to be at the bot
tom of the night riding, has decreed
that no farm owned by Hines shall be
tenanted this year. Several farmera
renting from the banker have been
warned that they must give up their
lease and move at once.
Berna, one of his tenants, was visit
ed recently by the night riders, who
flogged him and gave him until six
o’clock to leave the county with his
wife and two small children. If he did
not obey the summons the riders told
him he would be hanged before morn
ing.
The Workmen’s Class Union boasts
of 1,200 members, although many be
lieve that hundreds more have taken its
sacred oaths. In form and organiza
tion it greatly resembles the Klu Klux
Klan of the South in reconstruction
days. Members of the different lodges
meet secretly under cover of dark-
nesH at a designated Bpot or house.
The rules of the organization are few,
but binding. The records and minutes
of each meeting must be burned nnd
the ashes scattered upon the wind be
fore the meeting adjournB. Every night
new officers preside. No record is made
of their names.
Once a mnn becomea a member he iB
bound to the union for life. Should he
attempt to withdrrw or should he di
vulge any of the Becrets of the order,
he is taken to an isolated spot and
there flogged with a wet rope, soaked
overnight in water. This is the union’s
instrument of punishment and torture.
A Tribute.
Mrs. Lula Virginia Davis died at her
home near Newnan, Ga., on Jan. G,
191G. She was born near Turin on Jan.
11, 1867, being a daughter of Patrick
Carmichael and his wife, Mary Speer.
She was the youngeBt child of a large
family—a furnily that has furnished
both to the State and to the church a
number of strong and worthy sons and
daughters, one of them a successful
minister of tho gospel.
As a girl she was beautiful in coun
tenance and character, admired by her
schoolmates and her teachers. While
attending Senoia High School, of whkih
the writer ol this tribute of lo.ve was
principal, Bhe was converted and joined
the Methodist church. Though the con
ditions of her later life made it impos
sible for her to attend church services
regularly, she was ever a loyal follower
of tho Master, serving Him in heart
and in life.
On the twentieth anniversary of her
birth she was happily married to Rob
ert PhileoDaviB, son of the lateJ. B. S.
Davis, D. D. To them were born seven
children, five of whom survive her—
William Oliver, Mrs. Sallle E. Talley,
T. B., jr., James H. and Hugh Christo
pher. A devoted wife and mother, she
gave her thought, her time, herself,
freely to her family. During the long
monthB of suffering she was ever pa
tient and uncomplaining. She thought
not of herself, but prayed for others
who suffered, and for her husband and
children, whom she must leave. Her
mother heart dwelt long and tenderly
on her children. Loved by all, and lov
ing all, she has gone before. She is not
dead, but lives a larger, fuller life in
companionship with Christ and the glo
rious company of noble apirits that are

RESOLUTIONS
nr mew hops baptist cmipcii oh the ubath
OP It. O. CHANDI.KB.
We, the undersigned committee from
New Hope church, were appointed on
Nov. 29, 1015, to draw up resolutions
on the life and character of U. G.
Chandler, who died Oct. 24, 1915:
U. G. was born in our community
nearly 17 years ago, and spent his life
among us. Being in school with one of
the undersigned, and in our home from
time to time, we knew him well. We
knew him to bo a sturdy, studious and
industrious boy. He united with New
Hope church during the protracted ser
vices in August, 1915, under the minis
try of Rev. B. B. McGinty. He loved
the church and was true to its inter
ests. Cut down- in the prime of young
manhood, whose life had the promise
of bo much usefulness, is one of the
strange ways of Providence we cannot
understand. The high and glorious am
bitions that dwelt in the temple of hia
heart were nipped in the bud, but we
believe they will bloBsom more beauti
fully in the celestial clime. Many good
things might be said about this noble
young man.
His remains were laid to rest ’neath
the swaying oaks of New Hope ceme
tery.
In conclusion would say to the be
reaved ones, “Look to JJbus for com
fort and consolation.” Truly, we can
say, "Earth hath no sorrow heaven
cannot heal.”
Resolved, That a copy of this memo
rial be furnished his bereaved family,
and bIbo to the Newnan Herald for
publication. ' B. G. Moore,

Husband and Wife Both
Saved From Suffering
I wish to tell you the good results
myself and husband received from Dr.
Kilmer’s Swamp Root. About eleven
years ago I had a severe attack of La
grippe nnd wsb confined to my bed
obout eight weeks under the doctor’s
care. He pronounced my case kidney
trouble and rheumatism, and not re
ceiving the results from the doctor’s
treatment I should have received, I de
cided to try Swamp-Root. After tak
ing several bottles of Swamp-Root I
was able to get up and attend to my
work. About a year later my husband
was affected with a severe attack of
kidney trouble and doctored for some
time with the doctors and received no
benefit. Knowing of the good I had
received, he decided to try Swamp-
Root. His condition was such that he
was confined to his bed and wordB can
not tell how he suffered, but after tak
ing Swamp-Root he was relieved sO he
could ro on with his work without
pain. I wish to heartily recommend
Swamp-Root to ail persons afflicted
with kidney and bladder troubles, and
you may publish this letter if you
wish. Yours truly,
Mrs. A. E. Briggs,
Eldred, Pa.
Sworn and subscribed to before me,
this 25th day of May, 1912.

Many Troubles

Many of the troubles of life, such as
headache, indigestion, constipation and

Brown Spots on Old China.
The beauty of old china is often de
stroyed by brown spots which appear
on the surface, says tho Toledo Blade.
An effective way to remove those is
to bury tho dish in the earth, cover
ing It completely. The darker spots
require moro time to romove them
than tho lighter ones. This method
will not harm the most delicate
china.
Oolds Quickly Relieved.
Many people cough and cough—from
the beginning of fall right through to
spring. Others get cold after cold.,
Take Dr. King’s New Discovery and
you will get almost immediate relief.
It checks your cold, stops the racking,
rasping, tissue-tearing cough, heals
the inflammation and soothes the raw
tubes. Easy to take, antiseptic and
healing. Get a 50c. bottle of Dr.
King’s New Discovery and keep it in
the house. “It is certainly a great
medicine, and I keep a b6ttle of it con
tinually on hand,” writes W. C. Jesse-
man, Franconia, N. H. Money back
if not satisfied, but it nearly always
helps.
For Squeaky Boots.
Tho disagreeable noise of squeaky
boots inay bo stopped by having the
shoemaker spring them on each side
and Insert between tho aoles a tea-
spoonful of French chalk or drive
into the soles a few pegs. This
process costs only a trifle and an>
swore admirably.
Dangers of Draft.
Drafts feel best when we are hot and
perspiring, just when they are most
dangerous, and the result is neuralgia,
Btiff neck, sore muscles, or sometimes
an attack of rheumatism. In such
cases apply Sloan’s Liniment. It stim
ulates circulation to the sore and pain
ful parts. The blood flows freely, and
in a short time the stiffness and pain
leaves. Those suffering from neural
gia or neuralgic headache will find one
or two applications of Sloan’s Liniment
will give grateful relief. The ago
nizing pain gives way to a tingling
sensation of comfort and warmth, and
quiet rest and sleep is possible. Good
for neuritiB. too. Price 25c. at your
druggist’s.
Analyzing the Boy.
"How wpujld a boy grow up if he
nevqr-, badymud between bis toes and
a torrt hat?” Mrs. Homer Hoch de
mands to know. Many boyis have mud
not only all tho way between their
toes and a torn hat, but also on top
of the torn hat, and still they seem
never to grow up.—Kansas City Star.
