1’. U. met with. Mrs. Ernest Fry Tues
day night.
Miss Ruth Brewer eutertained a num
ber. of friends last Wcilnesduy evening
with a “tacky party.” The young peo
ple Carried out the idea in great style,
some of the costumes being extremely
comical. There wus no end of fun, and
different gnmes were enjoyed, after
which refreshments were served. Those
present wore Messrs. Glenn Bradbury,

Patterson, Clovis Cochran, Willard Hurst,
Lamar Williams, Lester Trammell, Ken

The Civic Wolfnre League bail a very
interesting social last Friday cvculng.
Next Tuesday there will lie a lecture in
the club-rooms. Our young people nre
beginning to look forward to these events
with great interest.

Mr. Lewis Dean is in St. Louis on a
business trip.
Mr. nnd Mrs. T. M. Zellnrs, Mrs.

were in Atlanta the past week.
Mrs. Tom Latimer entertained the
members of the Parsonage Aid Society
Friday afternoon.
Mrs. McBrayer nnd baby, of Atlanta,
were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Sima.
Mr. and Mrs. Micnjnh White went
down to HognnsvlUe Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. John Latimer was in LuGrunge
Tuesday.
Mrs. Jesse Cleveland hns returned from
a visit to relatives in Atlnntn.
The vnlcntine party given by Miss
Nellie Jackson to the high school boys
and girls was one of the most original
ever given in Grnntvillo. Numbers of
games and contests, nil relating to Vnl-
entine’s Day, furnished entertainment for
the jolly revellers. In the contest for
the. prettiest girl Miss Mellie Zellnrs was
declared the winner. A number of girls
nnd boys from Lutherville, Turin and
Lone Oak wore present, which made the
party one of the lnrgest given in some
time for the high school contingent.
Mr. S. H. Dixon was a recent visitor
to LnGrnngc.

LONGSTREET.
The death of Mr. D. C. Neely, which
■occurred Saturday night at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Hoxio McDonald, was
•a great shock to the community and a
source of deep sorrow to his many
friends. He was born April 5, 1832,
•and had he lived until his next birthday
would have boon 8!) years o,f age. He
was a Confederate veteran, nnd will be
-sadly missed by the old soldiers who
served with him during the war.
Rev. Z. Speer filled his appointment
at Coke’s Chapel Sunday nnd dined with
Mr. Norman Patterson. They had also
as guests Mr. nnd Mrs. Lester Proux,
of Turin.
Several from our community attended
.a singing given by Miss Lucy Lee, at
Pondview, Sunday night.
Miss Annie Smith, who is teaching at
Rock Spring, spent the week-end at home,
Mrs. Amanda Neely, McLean Todd,
Mrs. E. C. Baker nnd Mrs. D. W. Moore
:aro all on the sick list this week.
Mr. .). W. Johnson, who enlisted in
the U. S. Navy Inst fall, has been hon
orably discharged and is now at home.

ed away Saturday night nt the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Roxie McDonald, near
Slmrpsburg. To ids aged widow, chil
dren nnd grandchildren wo extend our
sincere condolence. He is survived nlso
by one brother, Mr. John Neely.

fruit trees, and we may be blessed with
an abundance of fruit after all, despite
our forebodings ten days ago.
