fact that numbers of specimens of
blood from patients who could not
find relief from general treatment have
boon known to show positive Wassor-

syphilis. Specific treulmont was then
administered, with the result that the
annoying symptoms were relieved,
and tho patient fully rocovorotl.
Cities and towns should protect the
health and happiness of their public by
roqulrlug all handlers of fruits, meats

showing that they are tree of all In

mothers should see to It that tho ser

have a Wasormunn test made In or-

have a Wassermann test made In or
der to Insure the members of the
household against accidental syphilitic
infection. This can ho done by hav
ing the family -physician obtain a
specimen of their blood und mall II

State Board of Health.
MEDICAL SOCIETY
ADVANTAGE TO PUBLIC
The Medical Association of Georgia
Is u very ohl'organlxatlon and has on
lls roll many of tho best physicians
nf iho state, it holds annual meet
ings, and besides has district and
county societies. This'Association Is
one from which the people derive
great benefit, as tho meeting togeth
er of our physicians must bring out
many things that will be of Interest
lo every doctor, und the rapid ad
vancement of the science makes ll al
most a necessity.
In Its Public Health section the pre
vention of disease and sanitation are
discussed und the newest thouhgl Is
debated. The fact as to whether or
not a physician is a member of his
County Medical Society goes a long
way as an endorsement as to his
professional standing.
Tho next annual meeting of the As
sociation will he held In Romo tho
4th to Hlb of May. Wo would be glad
to see every physician In our county
enrolled In the Society. There Is an
other advantage that we might men
tion, und that Is that every member
receives the Journal, a monthly de
voted to medicine. This Is furnished
freo to nil members. Membership In
the State Association In based on the
local society.

SCHOOL CHILDREN INFECTED.
In one of the rural counties of our
state where competent school examine
lion of the children has been made
the alarming condition of 6% infec
tion of syphilis was found. This we
assume was inherited: the report does
not state, but this Infection In this
country Is likely true to a greater or
loss extent in every county of our
state. Theso nnfortuuato children
should reeetve attention. All schools
should be examined by a physician
who knows syphilis aud the proper
measures to be taken to eradicate
the disease.
DID YOU KNOW THAT:
The physician or midwife who was
the attendant at tho birth of 11 child
and did not file u birth certificate

trant of tho district In which tho child
was horn, Is guilty of a misdemeanor
and Is liable to a Hue of not less

thnn $100 and Imprisonment at the
discretion of the court? And yet aomo
people claim that there 1h no penalty

DID YOU KNOW THAT:
The law prohibits the burial of any

MEASLES.
Do you know that tho peak of the
mortality curve for measles comes
during February and March and that
of scarlet fever probably runs paral
lel with this? Measles is often con
sidered hy a careless public as a
very unimportant factor lit tho life of
a community. It takes Its deadly loll
front tho children of Georgia each
year and at this season of the year
It is at its worst. Protect your chil
dren from infection by insisting upon
the dose quarantine of cases of mea
sles. No disease conies iu the course
of the normal development of the
child; overy child that has measles
Is retarded In growth or has definite
defects as a consequence. So, too, with
scarlet fever, but this Is not as prev
alent as measles and is therefore not
so serious a problem, even though
'much fear is attached to it; If moth-
era feared measles as much es they
do scarlet fever there would be fewer
deaths (rout measles and fewer chil
dren would go through life handicap
ped at the start.
