RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT.
On Nov. 1(1, 1020, tho Death Angel
came into our midst and boro nwny tho
sweet spirit of our friend and school
mate, Corn Mao Harper. But while wo
niourn'tho death o£ our friend, wo recog

and flint ninny nro sopnrntoil from us at
even an early ago. Bias was sick only a
short time, nnd bore her sulforlngs pa
tiently. Death came at Inst ns gently

1C she joined Providence Bnptist church,
under the ministry of Rev. W. 13. Fuller,
and wns a regular attendant at Sunday-
school nnd tho B. Y. P. U. Among her
many lovable traits, tho ono that towered
above all others was her unselfishness.
She lived for others, endeavoring to min
ister to their comfort nnd pleasure—not
only for her little brothers and sinters,
but others. To tho bereaved ones we
would sny: “Look to tho Lord .loans
for comfort. Ho is over ready to lend
a sympathetic ear, and will wipe away
nil tears." May the Lord g(vo each
and every one of her loved ones grace
to so live and die that thero may be a
final reunion in that “house not made
with hands, otornnl in tho heavens."
With lovely llowers banking the casket,
she wns laid to rest at Coke’ii Chapel.
And now—
Wherens, it. hath pleased our .Heavenly
Father to take her whom we so fondly
cherished from our midst j therefore, bo
it resolved—
1. That she will be remembered ns a
devoted member of Providence Sunday-
school. -
2. Tlint wo extend qur tenderest sym

CARRYOVER’ ’—WHAT
REALLY IS,
Savannah Press, 2d inst.
With tlie figures indicating tho short
est crop in twenty-nine years there has
been much talk of a “famine’' and
of ‘ ‘ umfiUatned higher prices. ’ ’ Ono
veteran observer said:
“Snell a small crop would of course
mean a famine in cotton, were it not for
tho surplus carried over this year from
previous yenrs. The current estunnte of
that carry-over is somewhat, over 9,200,
000 bales, but that includes uonrly 750,
000 hales of linters, not available .for use
ns cotton, and besides, some think the
amount overstated by. perhaps ns much
ns 1,000,000 bales. Then it is estimated
tlint from 2,000,000 to 2,SO(LOOO bales
must bo allowed for ns minimum re
serves, so tlmt tlie carry-over is reduced
materially from tho supposod 9,200,000
bales. Tliis old surplus, fortunntoly for
tho consuming interests, stands in the
way of nctunl famine this year, or the
market would undoubtedly |o quite
orniy. As it is, the outlook is very fa
vorable for goqd prices for both tho
old cotton and the small new crop. Tlie
Savannah market advanced yesterday to
17 cents for middling, whereas last June
the prioo dropped as low as 9 Vi “eats.
It is fnrthqr to be noted that 17 cents
now means a good deal more .h-iu it
