willing to do her Master’s bidding. She
was a true, humble Christian, over rendy

mother mill wife sho was true, thought
ful nnd kind. As a neighbor sho was
kind nnd loyal. She was a loyal member
of oi|| Woman's Missionary Socioty,
and bo anxious to pay her pledge to the
.,715 million campnign fund that she re
quested that all be paid. Sister Newton
had been a great sufferer. No ono can
know the hours of pain nnd anguish
through which sho pnssod, but boro her
sufferings ns wns to bo expected of a
truo soldier of the Cross. Sho died ns
she had lived—sweetly and quiotly. She
is not dead, but has only gone on before.
Therefore, bo it resolved—
1. That it is with a keen realization of
our Iobb that the church und Woman’s

On Friday, Sept. 1), the drond mosson-
ger, Dentil, invaded our order nnd claim
ed for its victim our noble craftsman
nnd beloved brother, Emmett R. C.
Sowell. Let us hope that the trestle-
board of this brother’s life passed such
inspection that he wns given to cat of
the hidden mnnnn, and received the whito
stone with a new name, that insures to
him perpetual happiness at tho right
hand of tho Grand Mnstor of the Su
preme Lodgo above. Ho wns raised a
Master Mason in S. D. Ellis Lodge,
Lone Oak, Gn„ nftcr which tiino ho so
conducted himself ns to command tho
rospoct of tho outside world und the
lovo and fellowship of his brethren. In
July, 1020, tie transferred his member
ship to (Irnntvillo Lodgo, No, 28(5. He
wns a Christian, pure, humble nnd sin
cere; ns a Mason, truo, tried and trust
ed. As a companion ho wus especially
charming. Ho had a fine sense of hu
mor, softened by a grent, sympathetic
heart. Ono cannot think of him ns dead.
Ho lived hnppily in the loving service
ho rendered his fellows, und tho echo of
his laughter still lingers with us. If he
could speak ho would sny—
“Mourn not for me;
Bid me not good night,
But in that brighter clime
Bid mo good morning.’’

OBITUARY.
On Oct. 1, 1921, the Grim Reaper in
vnded our community and clnlomd the
gentio spirit of Mr. S. H. Todd. He imd
boon n pationt sufferer for several
months, but bore his afflictions with
Christian fortitude, being wholly resign
ed to the will of ids Muster. He often
told Ills loved oucb that he did not fear
death—tlint nil wns well with him.
Wo had known Bro. Todd for a num
ber of years, nnd always found him
rendy nnd willing to lend a helping hand
to .his fellow-man, though modest and
unassuming in his beneficences. Only
those who have passed through a like
sorrow nan sympathize with the lonely
widow and children, for ho was a de
voted husband and father. But woep
not, griof-gtrickon ones, nud put your
trust in tho Giver of all good, for “tho
Lord glvath and tho Lord tnkoth away.”
Bro. Todd was born Juno 27, 185(5;
wns married to Miss Sallio Smith on
June 26, 1879. To this union ten chil
dren wore born, seven of whom survive
him, viz: Luther, Leon, Leonard, Mrs.
Pearl Pitts, Mrs. Willis Couch, Mrs.
Irono Hammett and Miss Belle Todd.
Bro. Todd joined Ebcnozer Baptist
church in August, 1902, and lived a con
sistent Christian life thereafter. He was
loyal to Ids county, State nnd church,
so in Ills going away the community in
which lie lived has sustained a great
loss. But wo sorrow not as those who
have no hope, for if we believe that
.Jesus died and roBe again on resur
rection morn, and hold steadfast to this
faith, we shall sec him again, und be with'

“What is it, dcarf she whispered. ,
“It inny bo a sacrifice on your part,

“What is it?” she repeated in trem

“You will believe pie, dearest,” he
continued, “when I say that T am driven
to ask it by circumstances pyer which
I liaVo no control, and I am noj fluting
from hasty impulse.”
‘Yos, ” the beautiful damsel ex.

“Darling,” he said, and the implor
