THE HOAD FOR AMERICUS.
It is suggested to revive the charter of
the Amoricus and Florence Railroad Com¬
pany and build a narrow gunge road from
Americas to Florence. The road can be
milt cheaply aud would be a big thing for
Stewart county, Lumpkin and Florence.—
L’crtplcin Indtpeiulc.it.
Such a road would be of immense bene¬
fit to Americas aud to the country through
which it would pass. It would open up a
rich country now witho it railroad commu
cation, and would bring to Aniericus a lttfgc
amount of cotton whioh now goes to Co¬
lumbus, Eufauln, C'uthbcrt aud Dawson.
It would puss through the best portion of
Sumter, Webster aud Stewart, giving direct
communications to the county seats of the
two latter counties, with which we are con
nested in the congressional and judical cir¬
cuits. S ac ii a road could be cheaply ccn
slruete <1, and could be owned and controll¬
ed by tli stockholders along the line of the
road. Enough subscriptions could be se¬
cured along the line to grade, bridge and
tic the road, il not more, and it then could
bo bonded for enough to irou and equip it.

and could not fail to be profitable. In
opinion such a road would be of more ben
efit to Americas than the road to Buena
Vista, and we would suggest to our busi¬
ness men that they look into the matter
and divert tile subscriptions made to the
Buena Avista road to Ibis new route. AVe
feel safe in assuring our Lumpkin friends
that Americas will do her share in the mat
ter as soon as things can be put in proper
shape -—Americas liecordcr.
