The first case called on the Trial Docket
was that of lfawson vs 1’attersou, ejectment.
The point involved in this case is to decide
which of two deeds is the proper one. Af¬
ter fillibustering over this case for more than
half a day, it was continued until the next
term of thc Court. In tho case of King vs.
Kirkscy, Trustee, J edge Willis Hawkins was
called upon to preside Judge Fort being
dispuuliliod having been of counsel. Ver¬
dict for defendant. On Tuesday the case of
Alston versus Majors, debt for laud, OCCU
pied the attention of the Court until a fate
no ill' when it was given to the Jury. The
case was a knotty one and the Jury staid
out the groatar part of Thursday night, fin¬
ally givmg a verdict against Majors for

yesterday, no cases of importance being dis¬
posed of.

Lumpkin and Americus want a narrow
gauge railroad built from Americas to FI. r
ence. The Amcricns liecord r wants the
road bad, as it says (hat such a road would
carry from a rich section of country a large
pnautity of cotton that now comes to Co¬
lumbus, and goes to other places. Well,
Columbus does not want to lose any of the
cotton that she usually gets from that sec*
tioii, and to make umlfirs easy and prova¬
ble all around, she would suggest that a
narrow gauge road or two be built directly
to this city from points below which need
railroads. It would be tnttclt better than to
run a road to Florence, and butt right up
against a river bluff. Come up this way
with your roads, gentlemen, come up.—Cb
