I have seen the ticket agent at Marshal’s Pass, 10,725 feet altitude, sitting by a roaring fire in his office, July 30, while outside, the ladies of our excursion were gathering wild flowers and berries, thermometer 44 degrees in the shade. 1 have seen in the streets of t-wen ty saloon towns open gambling hellB, with u sign, 'Cards aud Rum.’ I buvo seen mountains of rocks thousands of feet high, with (he stonc* arranged layer upon layer, ns if built by a mason, as regularly and carefully laid, and I hare seen stand iug iu the middln of a plain n flat stone on its edge 330 foot to the top. And I have seen in the Royal Gorge, a mountain over 2000 feet high, all seeming one solid stone, without a crack or crevice, aclunlly bne big solid rock. I have seen a girl, dashing over the plains on horseback, dismount l’ iok “ bouquot for bur hat, and, iug her Newfoundland dog, step his back and remount. I have seen an open Bible, lying on a carvod oak altar at tlio entrance of a run: shop and gambling den at Loadville, and abovo the Bible a sign painted, saying : Tlease, kind friends, don’t swear.’ Think of such au appeal, made in such a way, by the keeporof a drinking dealj I have ridden in n palace car on the Rio Grando railroad, the name of which, painted on ita side in gilt letters, was 'The blood of Jesus,’ fol¬ lowed by another car named ‘Heart of the Saviour.’ --- m • •«— It is said that gFss is gra luailv be ginning to take tho place cl wood aud irou in the eonstructiou of bridges in England.
