Talk For Your County.
A gentleman, who , recently
moved from the northern part of
the state to Irwin county, while
talking to us a few days ago said :
; ‘Smce I moved to the county
about eight months ago, I have
received a number of inquiries,
from friends and neighbors froui
the section in which 1 used to live,
regarding the soil, climate, resour T
ces etc., of Irwin county and Sous
them Georgia generally. To these
I replied, that I had traveled over
seven states in the Union, but have
never seen a section in any of them
so highly, favored with natural
resources as Irwin county. The
result is that several families have,
through what 1 had to say of it,
been induced to come and make
their homes in the county; some
buying homes, while others have
contracted for places for one
year only, but who, will no doubt,
at the expiration of ISD 7 , bay
lands and make Irwin their per¬
manent home.”
Now, if a man, who has only
been among us for eight months,
can wield such an inliuenee for
the good and upbuilding of the
county, can we not. as older citi¬
zens, put forth greater efforts in
that direction, and thereby add
hundreds to our, already large,
population during the next twelve
months? This would not only
add wealth to rjehes, and love*
liness to beauty, but many of the
dense pine forests, would, in the
next few years, be converted into
beautiful corn and cotton fields
with lovely tarui cottages and
stately mansions erected thereon.
It was our pleasure to visit the
Institute on last Friday afternoon
and listen to the beautiful recita¬
tions from the different pupils of
the school. The school is truly in
a flourishing condition and prom¬
ises to be the best that Sycamore
has had in yours. *

MR T. H MeMURRAIN GIVES
The Fallowing As His Rea¬
sons for Supporting Mr.
Jlji Hdu Tor Congress.
Mg. Editor : Please allow me
space in The News to give* a few
reasons for suporting Mr, Milikin
for congress.
Milikin is a seif-macle man, and
can, trorn experience, sympathise
with the poor. He has a good war
record, having volunteered at the
beginning, and lien, alter receiv¬
ing a permanent wound and disr-
chnrgo, volunteered again. He is
a practical business man, and
would do something besides make
speeches in conxreBS. More bus r
ness men and fewer orators are
need, d of the hour. Milikin help¬
ed to lead the people into the
adoption of a clear cut declaration
for bilver, while his opponent held
back and let the people lead him
into its adoption. ‘Milikin worked
for biui taliism for tha people’s
good before dreaming of being a
candidate; Brantley sounds his
trumpet to rally the people to the
polls to elect him to Congress oil
Milikins platform. Milikin is a
farmer and is thoroughly in accord
and sympathy with the farmers’
needs; the people are tired of
sending no »t<o but lawyers to con¬
gress. Milikin was one of tne
first democrats in this district to
oppose the views of Mr. Turner on
finance, and in putting lumber
and wool on the free list; Brantley
was one of the last, having agreed
in the beginning of this campaign
for Mr. Turner to return to
congress.
If interest in the people’s cause,
and ability to grapple witn the
leading question in the campaign
aye marks qf statesmanship, you
ar-s forced to admit, if you know
the two men, that Milikin is better
congressional timber than Brantly.
