Read and Answer at the Poll*.
Mr. Editor:
This is Tuesday, the 26th day of |
October. One week from this date
the election conies off'. Either Mr.
. Clements or Dr. Felton will be elec- !
ted to represent us in Congress.
Which shall it tie? Mr. Clement*
and Walker county; or Dr. Felton
and Bartow county ? I appeal to
; the voters of Walker county to an
swer this question. I appeal to the
\ voters of Floyd, Chattooga, Catoosa,
Dade, Whitfield, Murray, and Gor- j
' don to answer tins question. I ap
i peal to every man in this whole j
District, who believes in rotation,
in office, and ia opposed to a life- ;
! estot. therein, to answer this ques
tion. 1 appeal to the old men of |
this District, who tuke sn honest j
I pride in her young men upon whom i
! hung the future destines of lmtii
church and state, to answer this
question. I appeal to the young
men i f this District, who glory in
I the success and achievmenta of her
i youn men, self made young men.
who commenced at the plow, and
worked themselves up to the estate
I of manhood, honored and respected
I hy their fellow-men —to answer this
question. I appeal to the farmer,
the mechanic, the merchant; to all
i classes, who endorse Mi.’ Clem
ents’ vote for equal rights and equal
] taxation upon all, both white-and
colored, to answer this question. —
Only go to the polls on the 2nd of
I November and cast your votes;
and I shall not fear the answer. —
; Let everv man in this county vote,
and so sure an the sun rises and
| sets on the 2nd day of November,
| so sure will shouts of joy and good
i tidings go up from old Walker that
J. C. Clements is elected.
Cob!, county. Dr. Felton’s next
j door neighbor, promises 300 ma
j jority to help honor Walker coun-
I ty. Whitfield county promises at
| least 250 majority for Walker’s
honored son. Catoosa will add a
j majority of 300; Dade will follow
I with 850 majority. Chattooga, the
; banner county of the Distrct, will
give 800 majority. Floyd promi
\ ses a majority for Cletue ts. Gor
| don county thinks she will lie neu
| triil. Bartow promises Dr. Felton
I 1300 majority. Walker county will
| call Bartow’a majority and take in
I the checks —Yes, sir, don’t you for J
j get it Mr. McHan, Walker, county
! will do her best in this race. Ev
erybody likes Judson and every
body will vote for him except two I
j or three, and they don’t, like to vote i
j against him. They are mighty snr- j
rv Judson is in the race. They say
j lit- is a promising young man, and
I they hate to see him sacrificed,
i Yes ; sir ; they too much res
j pect for Judson Clements to call
i him a mule colt, and they don’t
! appreciate anything of the kind.
| although it appear* in the print of
the Free Press. Dr. Felton’s organ
and they really feel sorry for Jud
son. Yes, sir: so much so that
they haven’t got the heart to take
' any active part in this election. I
| don’t believe a man in the county
j would shed a tear if Judson were
i elected. One of the best men in
the county who voted for Dr. Fel-
I ton in trie last election told, me, he |
would not. But one opinion pre- j
; vails ; Judson is a good fellow. He
is our county man and we believe
j in him.
I Ml you there are numbers of
: men in this county who won’t vote
for Dr. Felton hut they say they
I can’t vote against Judson, and that
is the end of it. No, sir, they make
a mistake ; The end of it will lie
Judgon’s election,-, just what they
want.
It is not the Clements’ attach
! inent qnly, that troubles Dr. Frlton;
he also dread* the people’s attach
ment for Clements.
I’ll be in town on tbe_ night of
the 4th to sing the news.
