Methodist church held their regular
mtr.thly meeting with Mrs. G. L.
Bond at her home on Cove Street
Monday afternoon. In the absence of
the President, Mrs. R. S. Wheeler,
Mr*. P. B Henn presided at the meet
ing. A very interesting program on
the different nationalities was given
and papers on .this subject were read
by Mrs lvucy B. Jones, Mrs. J. L.
Brotherton and Mrs. Eva Howard. At
the business meeting encouraging re
ports were made by the circles of the
Society. At the close of the progtjam
and business meeting an ice course
with cake was served by the ht*tes*.
Mrs. W. H. Hixon was hoateas to
the W M U of the Fire*. ftaptist
church at her home near her* iSbtf-,
day afternoon. Mrs. Ir. A. ' JVxw,
president of the Union presided at the
meeting. A program on South Ameri
ca was given and papers on this

the Union. A number of delegate* of
this Union will attend the Association
which meets in La Fayette this week. ( .

The Young People’s Missionary So
ciety held r. very interesting nMtingi j
with Miss Mary Radford at her home
on Wilder Avenue Tuesday evening.
Mrs. A. S. Bowen, Jr., was in charge
of the meeting and gave a program
on the Scarrit Bible and Training
school. An enjoyable feature of the
evening was the vocal solo given by
Frank Lewis, of Cbattahoogni who
was a visitor at the meeting. At the'
close of the progrum a social hour
was enjoyed during which fruit salad
and punch were served by the hostess.
This society will stage a play “Light
house Nan" at the community house
auditorium Thursday evening, April
17th. A strong cast of characters have
been selected for the play and tho pub
lic is cordially invted to attend. An
admission of 15, and 25 cents will be
charged.

The Ladies Auxiliary' of the Pres
byterian church will meet next Tues
day afternoon with Miss Beasif'lOal
ton at her home on Wilder jAvfnue.
This is the first meeting of 'the’new
church year and the entire member
ship is urged to he present as impor
tant business will be transacted,
Mrs. Sarah McWhorter, who has
been spending the winter in Orlando,
Fla., will return to her home here the
first of next week.
Mrs. J. M. Radford has returned
from a visit .o relatives at Greensbo
rough, Ga. ;nd is ill of influenza ut

A wry enjoyable event of the past
week was the box supper given at the
old Bethel schoolhouse Saturday ev
ening. A large crowd was f resent and
the boxes which had been prepared by
the young ladies were sold to the
highest bidders and the majority of
them sold for fancy price*. Miss Thel

In the beauty contest Miss May Ma

present and received the prize. A cak.

Mrs. J. C Myers was the henoree ut
a prettily planned sui-priae birthday
party at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. George Ketner at her home here
Sunday, the occasion being in bonrr
of Mrs. Myers 49th birthday. The hon
oree was invited to visit her daughter
and on arriving found a nuhiber
guests assembled. At the neon hour
they were invited into the dining
room where the table
with a large white birthday cake or
namented with forty-nine pink can
dles. A declicious dinner was served
to the following, Mr. and Mrs. J.
Myers, Mr and Mrs C A Rutledge and
little daughter, Luther Myers, Jo My
ers, Miss Lydia Myers, Miss Myrtis
Howard, Mr and Mrs. George Ketner.
The honoree was the recipient of ma
ny pretty gifts during thg day.,
David Hixon, the little son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Hixon entertained a
number of little friends Monday af
ternoon here at his home, the occasion
being in honor of his sixth birthday.
Many interesting games were played
by the little folks during the afters,
noon. At a late hour an iMtl PAiree
with cake was served by the little
hosts sister, Miss Annie Mae Hixon.

Community House Activities—
Owing to the serious accident which
befell Marion Scurlock a member of
the Minstrel Troupe, th« JUinlter
Minstrel which was to have h*ra Stag
ed at Linwind Saturday everting was
not give* in full. A musical program
program. Mr. Scurlock who was
brought to his home here immediate
ly following the accident, which hap
pened near the La Fayette depot with
the result that he wab hadly hurt
from being hit with a car, is slowly
improving. This unfortunate affair
was deeply regretted.
The community singing which was
held at the community house Sunday
evening was largely attended and was
directed bjr Homer Price. ’

new Militia district from a portion
of LaFayette District, and we the
undersigned, being citizens of LaFay
ette District from which said propos
ed new district is to be created, hav
ing been appointed by said Board of
Commissioners of Roads and Revenue,
on the sth day of February 1924, to
lay out and define the lines of said
proposed new district, report as to
whether it is necessary and expedient
to create said new militia district, and
also to determine whether proposed
nyw. district will contain at least one
hundred male persons over twenty
one years of age, beg to report that
we have laid out and defined the lines
of said proposed new district as fol
lows:
Beginning at the southwest corner
of old Cedar Grove District, same be
ing the northwest eorner of land lot
No. 65, 12th district and 4th Section,
thence east to the brow of Lookout
mountain, being about the middle of
land lot No .101; thence in a south
easterly direction along the brow of
the mountain to the middle of the
north line of land lot No. 120; thence
east to the northeast comer of land
lot No. 120; thence south 80 rods;
thence east 480 rods; thence south 80
rods; thence east to the brow cf Pig
eon Mountain; thence following the
brow of the mountain to the north
east comer of land lot No. 226; thence
east with said north line to the north
east corner cf land lot No. 298, being
the junction of the south line cf the
old Cedar Grove district with the west
boundary line of Wilson district;
thence along the said west line of
said Wilson district to the intersection
Wilson, LaFayette, and the old Cedar
Grove districts, and being on the wes
tern foot of Pigeon mountain; thence
following the line of LaFayette dis
trict as made recently by W. E. With
ers et al to the junction of LaFayette,
Kensington and old Cedar Grove dis
tricts to the south side of the W. D.
Mize land; thence west from the
north line of land lot No. 306, 11th.
District and 4th Section to the north
west corner of land lot No. 296, being
the intersection of this line with the
east line of Dade County, thence fol
lowing the Walker-Dade counties
line to the point of beginning, and
that the boundaries be made as shown
by map attached and marked Exhibit
“A” which is made a part of this re
port.
We further report that the above
described territory from which said
proposd new district is to be created,
contains more than one 'hundred male
persons over twenty-one years of age,
and that, in our opinion it is neces
sary and expedient to create said pro
posed new district from the territory
of said LaFayette District No. 871.

It is ordered by the Board of Com
missioners of Roads and Revenue that
a district having the boundaries, as
described in the report of the com
missioners, be, and the same is hereby
established as a Militia District of
said county, and that same be known
as Cedar Grove Militia District. It is
further ordered that the Clerk of the
Board of Commissioners of Roads
and Revenue transmit instanter to the
Governor of Georgia, a duly certified
copy of the minutes of the Board of
Commissioner of Reads and Revenue
establishing said district, including
t'he report of the commissioners, lay
ing out said Militia District, and the
order creating said district, and that
said proceedings be published in the
Walker County Messenger, a newspa
per in which the sheriff’s advertise
ments are published, and at the door
of the courthouse of said county for a
period of thirty days.
