THE BULLETIN

Street of Irwinton
Mary Tignei -
Irwinton folks had a tough
tussle with a forest fire Wednes
day. It swept up the ravine back
of Toomsboro Road and came as
near the homes as the fowl
! houses and woodpiles.
From remarks heard on the
Street, the fellow who turned it
loose on us must have felt hist
ears burning.

“A Toast to the Champions”
The Irwinton girls closed out an
eventful basketball season last Satur
day night in Jeffersonville by taking
third place in the 6th district tourna
ment held there.
Although Cadwell was first place
winner, with Rentz second, ahead of
Irwinton, we still hail our girls as
champions. For eyen though Rentz
defeated them by the margin of one
point in a toss-up game, we feel that
they have accomplished enough, and
overcome enough obstacles in the
oast season to be called champions.
We salute you Cornelia Byington,
Doloies Billue. Lorene Hatcher, Do
rjes Williams. Hedy Williams, and
Cisirissa Bloodworth. As seniors of
Irwinton High School, you haye play
eckyour last regular season game x but
your past performances on the court
won’t be forgotten, for you have set
the stage for successful teams to fol
low. Yes, we regard you as champions
in ability, spirit, aggressiveness, team
work, and sportsmanship. Good
luck!

THE BULLETIN
NOW IS THE TIME
we are living in a time of un
precedented human suffering.
The sort of world which will
emerge may well depend in
large part upon the way each of
us helps to meet some of the
needs in the vast picture of want
and misery now existing in
Europe, in Asia, and the islands
of the Pacific.
This is why the American Red
Cross is appealing to each of you
to make your contribution during
the month of March without
fail.
Living as we do in a land of
comparative security and abund
ance, it may be that our imagi
nations cannot grasp utter desti
tution, not only a nation-wide
but a continent-wide scale. And
yet that is the situation in
Europe today.
Suppose acute needs confront
ed you everywhere you turned.
Suppose the faces of starving
people and the blue bodies of
ragged children were never out
of your sight. You’d do some
: thing about it.
I Quite aside from the humani
tarium element, this is not a
problem that is remote from your
own lives. Cold and hunger not
only stunt bodies, they disinte
grate character and warp judge
ment; and these miserable child
ren will be the citizens of tomor
row’s world the builders of
society the controllers, in part
of our destiny.
Don’t put it off until tomorrow
or next week. Contribute now.
