Last Saturday by 12:00 o’clock
noon, the deadline for quali
fying to enter the primary to be
held April 10th, 11 men announc
ed their intentions of running for
County Commissioner,
The districts and candidates
from each are as follows: Dis
trict No. 1 (Bethel and Ramah),
R. F. Gibbs, incumbent, and
T. M. Bloodwortih; District No. 2
(Ivey and Bloodworth) Heywood
V. Smith, incumbent, and Cole
man Etheridge; District No 3
(Passmore and Lords), C. N.
Bruner, incumbent, and Jim
Lawson; District No. 4 (Turkey
Creek and Griffin), W. T, Wins
lett, incumbent, and Gordon
Payne; District No 5 (Irwinton
and High Hill), George E. Beck,
incumbent, Jack F. Maddox, and
J. R. Sims.
Alex S. Boone, Jr, candidate
for state senator, and Lee W.
Pennington, the current repre
sentative and candidate for re
election are without opposition.

Mr. and Mrs. Mack Bentley of
Macon spent last week end with
Mr. and Mrs. James Adkins and
on Sunday visited relatives at
Vidalia.
Mrs. Ed Boone, formerly -es
Toomsboro, was a visitor in
town Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Davis of
Augusta were guests of Mrs.
Lada Asbell during the week end
Miss Virginia Bragg of Atlanta
is a guest of Mrs. Mamie Mad
dox.
Messrs. Edwin Everett and
Lewis Petty, Jr., of MGC and
Ralph Culpepper, Jr., of Gordon
Military College were guests of
their parents during the week
end.
Miss Audrey Morgan, district
home supervisor, spent Friday
night with Mr. and Mrs. Mercer
T-5 Joseph Mercer landed in San
Francisco March 8. He is expect
ed home any day.

First Veteran
Throws In His Hat
Jack F. Maddox, by announc
ing his candidacy for County
Commissioner of the Irwinton
and High Hill district, became
the first ex-serviceman of World
War 11, from Wilkinson County,
to enter politics,
Jacks’ decision to run for this
office was greeted with approval
'py the many ex-servicemen from
this county who feel that the
veterans, that have tasted and
profited by the bitter experience
of war, should be a part of our
peace time government.
Jack entered the Army, Nov
5, 1942 and served until Nov. 16,
1945, being honorably discharged
under the point system He serv
ed 31 months overseas as a mili
tary policeman, in the European,
African Theater and took part in
the Tunisian, Southern France,
Rhineland, and Central Europe
campaign.
Wilkinson County
Bond Sales Increase
Wilkinson County folks bought
more bonds in February than they
did in January! This was an
uounced by Frank Chambers,
Chairman, U. S. Savings Bonds
Division.
Wilkinson County sales of E, F
and G Bonds for January were
; $8,037 wheresa February sales
were $10,137. Thus the program
of buying bonds on a thrift and
savings basis’is off to a good start
in Wilkinson County.
January sales of E Bonds for
Georgia were $4,240,000 - Febru
ary sales were $4,810,000

Mrs. Mary Cason, Billy Cason and
Little Jimmy Tate of Warner Robins
are spending a few weeks in their
home here.
Mr. Rosser Bridwell of Miami has
returned to his home after spending
several weeks with his sister, Mrs.
T. J. Hulme, who continues ill.
John Bovd Jackson of the Nayy is
home for a visit. Mr. Pittman Jackson
of Atlanta also spent the weekend
with his family.
M rs. P Z Lord has recovered from
her illness and is enjoying an extend
ed visit from her daughter. Mrs. Eva
Lee MattheWson of California.
Aliss Celia Freeman of Atlanta
spent the weekend with her father,
Postmaster W. 11. Freeman.
Mrs Maine Baker of Estel, S. C.
is spending some time with her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. A- L. Branan.Mr.
Baker was here for the weekend.
The people of Toomsboro hope to
start a gymnasium at an early date.
Much interest has been shown so far.
The PTA met Wednesday with
18 present. Some splendid work is
being done by this organization.
There are several new business
houses opened in the last few weeks.
Emory Montgomery purchased the
Lord store formerly owned by Mr.
Rufe Davis. Ear) Brown and Earl
Thompkins are operating a new store
next to the Weaver’s Frank Bush
has opened a Cabinet Shop over the
post office and will move his wife and
little daughter to Toomsboro from
Zebulon, Ga. Mrs. Bush is the former
Miss Vs illie Mae Lord.
Miss Marcele Mashburn of Cum
mings. Ga. and a teacher in THS
was called home on account of the
death of an uncle.
Merrill Dean of the Merchant Ma
rines is o-n a visit to the Boro.
Toomsboro has several new fami
lies in town and more moving in with
in the next few months. Four new
students haye been enrolled in the
high school recently. Th^y are: Mil
dred and Lewis Browder, Annis Carr,
and Sarah Yancey.
Mr Morrison will move his family
from Savannah on April Ist to the
home next door to the Holliman’s on
Main Street. Paschal McCook of Mc-
Intyre is doing some work in this
house which was recently purchased
by Mr. J- H. Holliman-
