The Orphan’s Appeal.
It was in the long ago that God, the Father, said : •’The
poor shall never cease out of the land : therefore I command
thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy hroth
er, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.” Again he
said: 1 1 The fatherless which are within thy gatek, shall
come and shall eat and shall be satisfied.” Later, by the
month of his prophet he said : "Leave thy fatherless chil
dren 1 will preserve them alive.’’
{esus. the Lord, reiterated the statement made by the
Father in the beginning, when he said to his disciples: ’ Y e
have the poor with you alwajs, and whensoever ye will ve
may do them good.”
During all the ages that have passed the number of de¬
pendent poor has increased, the cry of the fatherless is heard
more and more throughout the world, and the voice of (rod
the Father, and of Jesus Christ the Son sounds out over and
over again: The poor shall never cease out of the land—
Whensoever ye will ye may do them good.”
The care which we bestow upon the fatherless is one of
the New Testament tests of the purity of our religion.
God in his wisdom and mercy, has so ordained that the
strong shall ever help the weak—that those who have must
share with those who have not.
As the needs have increased the love of God, and the love
d humanity, has constrained Christian people to provide
tomes where dependent orphan children may be cared for
md trained for lives of usefulness.
The work of caring for the orphans has grown until our
; air land is dotted over here and there with homes that stand
with wide open doors to gither in the homeless ones, and
save them tor time and for et.-rnitv. Bit, alas, the funds
for carrying on the work have not increased with the de
nand. While hundreds are being rescued rear by year,
hundreds more are crying for admitance into our Orphans’
domes. This cry has become so urgent that Orphanage
workers all over our Southland have agreed to appeal to the
people to observe one day during the year as Work Day for
[he orphans. The plan is that every one who is able to work
hull give the value of the day’s work for the support of the
orphans Work Day this year is Saturday, September 25th.
We have at the Georgia Baptist Orphans’ Home at Hape
ville 180 children to be fed, clothed, and trained, We ore
greatly in need of funds with which to meet our present ex¬
igences, and to enable us to take in the many more needy
mes that are constantly knocking at our doors f.-r adnusr
ton.
Will not the friends of the orphans observe Work Day
m d send their cash contributions to J. J. Bennett, Atlanta
7a, Groceries and other gifts should be sent by freight or
ixpress to Ilapeville, Ga.
Remember, the only way by which God can be "the fath
of the fatherless” is through you, and you, who read this
ippeui, whom he has made stewards of his bounty.
Mrs. L M. Landrum,
In behalf of the Georgia Baptist Orphans’ Home.
Here For Berry School Opening.
Nearly All the Students Arrive foi the Fall

Bronzed and hearty young men alighted from every incoming

date will come in to-day.
The entrance examinations, and assignment to classes will l»
made to-day, and the regular work will begin on Thursday morn
ing. There will be no ceremonies incident to the opening, but
the boys will buckle down at once to the business that brings them
here, that of getting a practical education.
The new dormitory, that has been built during the summer, s
ready for occupancy, and the students-slept-there last, night. It
affords accommodations for 60 students and has relieved in a m -a
sure of the crowded conditions that obtained last year Thing.
are still running over, however, and many young men are clamor
ing for admission, who have to be refused on account of lack o1
room. The new dormitory permits an increase of the number re
ceived, however.
Owing to the larger number of boys, this year, several additions
have been made to the faculty. The work of the school will pm
eyed without interuptiug until December 23, when the Christmas
vacation will commence and last until January 4, 1 he school ye; r
will close on May .10, 1910.
The first event scheduled for the new term is the V. M. O. A.
reception which will be held on Saturday night.
Practically all of the old students, who were in school last year,
have returned. Principal Adams estimates that SO per cent <f
the former students have returned. There are also us many new
boys as the school can care for. Tne students come from the dil
ferent parts of Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and Geor
gia.
Prospects are bright for the most successful year in the history

Eat What
You want of the food you need
Kodol will digest it.
You need a sufficient amount of
good wholesome food and more than
this you need to fully digest it.
Else you can’t gain strength, nor
can you strengthen your stomach if
It is weak.
You must eat in order to live and
maintain strength.
You must not diet, because the
body requires that you eat a suflie
lent amount of food regularly.
But this food must lie digested,
and it must be digested thoroughly.
When the stomach can't do it,
you must take something that will
help the stomach.
The proper way to do Is to eat
what you want,, and lot Kodol di¬
gest the food.
Nothing else can do this. When
the stomach is weak it needs help;
you must help it by giving it rest,
and Kodol will do that.
