JOHN HARPER IS
AGAIN
Governor Wants Thorough
Investigation Made by the
Prison Board.
John Harper, the condemend
Murray county prisoner, will
hang next Friday, October 8.
Again he has been saved
a respite, Governor Brown Mon
day morning granting him a
rieve until October 22. This
makes the eighth respite for the
celebrated prisoner. Harper was
respited in order that the pri Mill
commission, to which a p-vv
member lias just been appointed
to succeed the late Judge Turner,
might have ample time to make
a thorough investigation into
the plea for a com mutation of
the death sentence. The governor
is desirous of giving Harper
every chance, owing to the state¬
ment that, important new light
will be thrown on the case.
