EXPLANATORY,
This week we greet oor renders
Ruder a new name. Our motto is,;
,! Tell the Truth”, to which we
shall stiictly adhere let it injure
or profit whom it may. We are
here for the combined interests of
ourselves and those of the people
at large, and, never, shell we besi
tate in tho least instance to stand
fearlessly up to the advocacy of
any principle calculated to be for
the advancement of the county
abd its citizens. Never, will wo be
intimidated in our utterances by
any threatened report; our posi
tion on all issues shall be boldly
made known to our readers. An
issue is now before you, (k,ukluxing)
which wo shall persecute to the
bitter end. “Live or dia, survive
6r perish” is a revolution firmly
fixed iu our minds.

A DISGRUNTLED SUBSCRIBER.
T he most prominent of these is

head subscriber who sees some
thing in his county paper that
does not suit him and orders the
Editor to maik him off the list.
This should serve as a warning to
subscribers and teach them not to

editor can please everybody and
himself too. Don’t be too ready
to get offended tor you only make
a jackass of yourself in every in
stance.

4. large and enthusiastic crowd
of citizens of Murray county met
at the court house in Spring Place
on Tuesday June 2nd for tho pur
pose of taking some decisive steps
toward the apprehension of the
assassins of flosey Jones and to
show their utter abhorrence of this
and every other act of modern
kuklux.
Rev McAfee Bates was chosen
chairman of the meeting and J O
Hearlsell secrela^. •
A committee of one representa
tive from each malitia district in
the county was appointed to pre
pare resolutions lor the assembly
which read as follows:
Whereas the recent killing of
Hosey Jones, a peaceable law
abiding citizen of our county iD
his own home, in the peace of the
Sabbath and the bosom of his
family by armed paen under cover
of night and disguised, was an
act of startling atrocity, an outrage
on peace and safety, a foul blot
on the humanity and civilization
of our county and which unpun
ished, will draw down on us the
scorn of men and the curse of
God- Wherefore
Resolved 1st That we denounce
the killing of Hosey rones and
other outrages in violation of the
law as acts of cowardly, brutal and
fiendish assassins.
2. That we see in this affair the
danger of secret organizations,
which assume to thepiselyea the
right to interfere with what be
longs only to the Legislature and
the courts; the making and en
forcement ot law, that however
just the actions of individuals may
be in extreme cases, where the
courts are impotent to reach them,
that any organization, other than
tboi-e established by law for the
regulation of the community is
wrong and will be taken ad van
tage of by lad men, crime of the
worst sort as in the murder of
Hosey Jones.
3. That we pay tax and bear the
burdens of government for the se
curity of law and the protection of
courts and that we regard the so-
called kuklux and other secret or
ganizations, that undertake to reg
ulate private matters as opposed
to our peace and safety and dan
gerous to our existence as a coun
ty and that we appeal to the good
men among ^hem to abandon them
at once and help us in restoring
law and order. Lawlessness and
violence must and shall cease,
4« That the officials of our coun
ty afid all good citizens be reques
ted to use all lawful means to sup
press the evils, under which we
now labor and that their endorse
ment, will be held as a test of their
endorsement of these resolutions.
Jj, Thft we earnestly call on all
persops in po?ession of any facts,
that may lead to the ff’soovery o<
the murderers of Hosey Jones, to
make them known at once and we
hereby promise them protection to
the extent <. f our lives, honor and
and property,
6, That tho Governor be reques
ted to offer a large reward for the
.apprehension of the murderers of
Hosey ’ones and that our county
Board offer a reward of five bun
dred dollars,

The AtlMU girl bows her stately head,
And she fix.s her stylish lips
In a firm, hard way; and lets tj}*m go

The Rome girl, the pride of the State,

As big as aton of nay.

With rapturous warmth, and the youthful

And the Jasper girl, a creature divine,
Whether wife, widow or miss,

And puts ber whole soul in the kiss.
