In as-much as it has pleased the
hand of Fro\ idence to remove
from the active scenes of temporal
labor, our esteemed brother and
co-worker, Mark Harden Luffman,
we desire to testify our respect for
his memory and to express our
earneit and sincere sympathy
with the family, who, by this dis
pensation, are deprived of the ob
ject of their affections. In view of
the loss we have sustained by the
death of our brother and friend and
of the still heavier loss sustained
by those who are nearest and dear*
est to him, be it
Resolved, That while in the
death of brother Luffman, this
lodge has lost one of its most vai
ner! members and the county one
of ita most respected citizens, that
the Grand Lodge above has gain
ed a member, and that he has only
been called from the labors of
earth to refreshments in heaven.
Resolved, That we deeply and
tenderly condole with the relatives
of our deceased brother, and that
we devoutlj commend them for
consolation to our Grand Master
who orders all things for the best
and whose chastisements are meant
in mercy, and that we share witli
them the hope of a reunion in the
Grand Lodge above where there
will be no more partings and where
bliss ineffable removes all tears.
Resolved, That the Lodge be
draped in mourning and that the
Brethren wear the usual badge of
mourning for thirty days.
Resolved, That a copy of these
resolutions be transmitted to the
family of the deceased, a copy
spread upon the records of the
Lodge and a copy furnished the
Jimplecute for publication.

With great sadness of heart we
announce the unexpected death of
our young friend and neighbor,

Thursday the 21st ult. Funeral
services were held at Sumach
church Friday at eleven o‘clock
conducted by Rev. Keith of Dawn-
vill. Mr. Holcomb's remains were
interred in Sumach Cemetery. He
was twenty-four years of age; he
has been reared in this vicinity;
was a membor of the M E church
South. We extend our sympathy
to the relatives and friends of the
deceased in this their sad bereave
ment.
School closed at Sumach Semi
nary Friday May 22nd after a five
nuntlis term of hard toil and study.
The marked success and progress
was amply displayed in the excel
lent exercises Friday as well as
the entertainment Friday night.
The closing exercises were well
attended by the patrons and friends
of the school which proves their
appreciation ol the work done by
the efficient facully.
The two days services,' familiar
ly known as the “May meeting"
was held at Sumach fourth Sun
day and Saturday before was large
ly attended not only by the imme
diate community but from all parts
for miles around. The church at
this place was organized forty two

been pastor of this church ever
since irs organization. The eighty
fourth sommunion service was held
last meeting and during the whole
forty two years the faithful pastor
has never missed a single commun

As it has rained again we think
