The school system is reported to
be gaining a firm and substantial
standing. We hope this is so, for
if any thing needs improving it
certainly is the school system of
Georgia.
About the most attractive object
under our observation in these

pleases the majority of the people.
Its meaning is explained by a clip
ping from the newsy columns oi
the Rome Tribune.
Unless a great change takes
place im public sentiment, every
influence combined cannot keep
the farmeis of Georgia from going
into a new parfy. It. seems to us
inevitable. The alliance lecturers
we have recently Been repoit the

find is in the towns and cities.

Alliance Farmers.
In what portion of the state doss
this sentiment exist? In onr opin
ion its only existence is among a
limited lew of alliance bosses who
court an upheaval lor the sole pur
pose of reaping political affluence
from the spoils. If this paper has
the least item of prestige among
its readers it is working hell and
destruction among/ the ignorant
classes of our solid party. But ,we
are loth to believe that any part
of the people will be gulled by
such iustgnifieadt nincompoops as
are evidently at the stern wheel .of
the People’s Party.
We give our readers a treat this
week in the way of a letter from
a “special” correspondent at Rome.

The Spring Place Times has been
changed to the Jimplecute, and Ed

Jimplecute is hewing squarely to
the chalk line, and its bold and
fearless criticism is showing that

Home, Ga., June 8.—[Spe
cial.]--A most dastardly at
tempt was made to wreck the
Rome and Decatur south 1 *
bound passenger train that
leaves Rome at 2:40 o’clock
p. nr,., near Coosaville, some
twelve miles from the city. A
great bar of iron and timber
were so arranged on the track
that had the engine st:uck
them the train would have
been hurled down a steep prec
ipice, The wreckers evident
ly planned to do the work
thoroughly, for the trap was
set so that the high and deep
trestle that span3 Corbin cieek
woulcf have been the scene of
the accident. The wreckers
are mere boys, and dull fanner
lads at that. They are in jail.
Here is the story: The engineer
was on the lookout, and seeing
the obstruction on the track,
he reversed his engine and
stopped in time. Some of the
trainmen and passengers saw
near them, in the wood, two
young fellows running, 30 the
trainmen jumbed off and over
hauled them. The prisoners
were put on the train and af
terwards transferred to the
north-bound passenger tiain,
and brought to Rome and put
m vail.
This morning a trial was had
before Justice of the Peace
Treadway. A most horrible
story of the blackest crime
was unfolded The boys are
named Henry and John Lay.
John is thirteen years old. He
stated that Henry put tLe iron
bar on the track and said:
“John, we are going to wreck
the train and and the men who
get killed wo will get then-
money.”
John said he saw the train
coming, and he t-ied to get the
iron bar off the track. He used a
r li but it got fastened someway
in the crossties' When Hinry.
sixteen years old, made his state
ment his admission was very sim
ilar, only he implicated bis young
brother, John, in the plot. So the
magistrate bound the boys over,
and they are in jail, to await trial
in the supreme court.
The boys- father lives on a farm
in the neighborhood of Coosaville,
The boys were clad in simple farm
attire, and soom to be of a low or
der of intelligence.
