OUU POSITION.
The fight is on in Georgia be¬
tween Democracy and the Third
Party.
Munay County is the field in
which it is our duty to man this
paper's influence.
It now remains for ua to choose
bet ween tho two parties, which We
do with no hesitancy, whatever.
Our choieo may easily be known
fcy a perusal of these columns.
However, we shall state in tl|c
outset that wo entertain more
friendship for Farmers than all
other clashes combined, and be¬
lieve we are doing that olaes ! of
citizens more good by adhering do
tho principles of Democracy than
it would bo possible to accomplish
in any other manner.
This is an issue that is being
diecuBsed by the press of our cofiti
try and duty demands that we
join iu the fight.
We choose the eide of Demotj*
recy from the fact that in thie
party lay the only hope? for ih'p
better interests of the countiy.
Our choice may be the cause of a
heavy loss to the paper's patron¬
age but wo cannot believe it wi}l
be for long. Wo know full well
that the*tbird party issue has some
strong sympathizers in Murray
county, and a great many of theae
eame sympathizers are liberal pa¬
trons of this paper. We hope our
stops will not receive a criticism
too severe, and above all it is orur
wish that none will misoou. Une
our pesition. *
Because we oppose this third
party is no reason for the people to
believe wo look with disfavor on
the Alliance, for such in not the
case. The Alliance, in principle,
baa our heartiest co-operation
but we oppose tho ^institution ol
politics m organizations of this
kind and, especially, do wo speak
against a revolution and with¬
drawal from the party which has
so long been the guardian angel of
the Farmer's welfare and ihe
South's prosperity, and in opposi¬
tion to such an upheaval wo shall
exert our utmost influence if every
name is stricken from our sub¬
scription books for the action.
A reunion of Gen. “Tigo" Antler
son's brigade took place in Marri
etfca last week and a rousing time
they had. A big dinner was spread
for the old veterans and they were
furnished every luxury that
could be wished for.
Hoa. Seay of Rome is now fa¬
mous oc account of bin ‘‘Bachelor
Bill.“
Wonder it be has any old maid
kiui’olks he w ants married?
The object of this gloriously big
measure is to make bachelors pay
a heavy lax just because they were
eo fortunate as to never be married.
Tho older the man the heavier is
hie tax, the uglier the bachelor is
(ho higher his tax,
Seay is either a cussed fool or
fills a long fell want as a jester to
'•guy the hayseeds. 4 *
Jerry Simpson and his disrupt¬
ing party are hellbent on organizing
a third party, aud evidently with
the Motto, “Rule or iuic*‘ they
with their followers are racing at
ter the fatuous ducks that belong¬
ed to “Ward." Oid ;feckless and
his pals should be rushed out of
the South iu a manner not alto¬
gether mild and warned to never
set foot on Democratic soii again.
We don’t believe iu wkifceoap rule
but Jerry's is a case in which it

has come out like a loyal Demo¬

the perpetuity of that grand old
party. He advises immediate ac¬

in every county in the state and it
is wholesome and timely advice,
too. This party should take deei

Democracy sod agaicst fcfce third
party. This is just what is needed
in many counties throughout the
entire elate of Georgia. Steps
should be taken immediately to ap¬
prehend any footing which the
stealthy third party leaders may
gain. They are v/orking their wi¬
liest tricks to prejudice and mis¬
lead the Alliance masses. Once
the South is divided just so soon
is the old and reliable democratic
party crushed and the republicans
placed in the saddle with a firm
hold on tho reins of Government
which will never be wrested from
their despotic grasp. Will the Al«
liance and the South’s people be
led to an action so- foolhardy and
so crushing to their political pow¬
er? We think not. The people
will not be influenced by such flam
gush as is expounded by Jerry
Simpson aad his rotten crow.
TO GENERAL GORDON.
You have been honored, an yon
deserve, by tha people of Georgia
with the highest gifts iu their pos¬
session. You have not only been
honored with the best offices but
you have been placed above any
living roan in tho temple of the af¬
fections of the citizens of the Em¬
pire State of tho Souib. !
You are today tho chiofest among
Georgians and the peerless pride of
a great commonwealth. Your
name and presence arouse an en¬
thusiasm equaled by nono other
and your influence is that which
falls from greatness of sou) and
brain.
And now General Gordon, you
arc needed at tho front. Duty,
“the grandest word in the English
language,” calls you to the thick
of the fight. You never skulked
in tho days of' danger, when the
bullets hissed their message ot
death or tho shells shrieked of
bloody carnagp. Then it was that.
Gordon's plume, like that of Na
varie, waved in the front of tho
battle, and Gordon’s sword flashed
as an inspiration to the brave boys
he led to the charge.
Aud now, General Gordon, come
forth aud lead these same old boys
to the charge again. There’s an

vou wore a candidate for the United
States Senate and your enemies
were hot after you, you “bearded
the lion in his den, the Douglass
in his hall,” and you went before
the people with your cause and
you won.
You are needed now; the Demo¬
cratic party of Georgia needs your
best service. Do now for that par¬
ty as you did for yourself in the
Senatorial campaign. Show your
gratitude to those who stood by
you teen by standing by them
now.
Will vou do it, General? Will
leap once more into the saddle
and lead the Democratic hosts to
victory?
Do not skulk; do not tarry lon¬
in your rural retreat. The
people of Georgia are expecting
of yon in this troublous
time. Shall they be disappointed?

the sentiment ot full many a thou¬

of blood and carnage when you
