TUE “FANG DANG.”
It is not often tho young people
Cleveland have a party, and if they
have as sad an coding as that one
last week it is best not to havo them.
A party of young folks passed
town last week from Athens and
ty, aud tho junior proprietor of
Cleveland Hotel thought it would be
good time to trip the fandango, so
invited a fow of tho boys around,
had wbut he termed a jolly time.
as the adage says, “there is no
without its bitter/’ and so it proveu
this case, for Mr. Oakes was so
away with ono of tho young
black eyed beauty—as not to attend
bis outside affairs as ho ought, aud
consequence was ou looking into
the next morning they found a
negro and mule. The negro died
the effects of too much gas,
might havo escaped from tho
folks and founds its way down iuto
well; and tho mule died from
hung, but not iu the way the
men did, for ho died from tho effects
strangulation by a ropo, and tho
nmn ware very much hurt by
their affections hung on tho young
who failed to reciprocate.
At last aecouuts the negro was
but the poor, poor muio is now we
pose in a happier sphere, for they
to bring him to. Moral, be careful
you let your gas escape next time,
how you tie up your stock.

G’orkhill accompanied by the register
wills of the Dirtrict a former well
newspaper correspondent called at
jail to-day and bad an interview
Guiteau. Corkhill who has been
ly rated for what purported to bo
ments of ills concerning the conduct
tho guards at the jail which was
ed yesterday is sharply criticised
night for to-nay’s stop in visiting
teau and having him interviewed whou
there was no occasion for it.
In view of the rumors regarding a
possible attack on the jail aud the fears
eutevtaiued by the authorities that such
an attak may take place iu iho
of the President's death precautions
havo been taken by General Sherman
to prevent the success of any such
move tnau t. The guards Htthe jail have

each of which will be equal to a regi¬

Ma jor Brock chief of police of t he Dis¬

the arrival of the troops from Fortress
Monroe nor have tho commissioners.
Brock said to-day that while ho deem¬

necessary as far as their being called
into use is concerned, still be thought I
it highly expedient that they should bo j

idea of a riot, nipping it ia tho bud. At 1

have been issued to the force.
For tho Advortisor.
A TRUE INCIDENT.
The campmeeting season being now
- in fall blast, recalls very forcibly to my
mind a thrilling adventure which l
pas ed through unharmed, I am thank¬
ful to say. la the fall of 13—. hearing
of a campmeeting in tho mountains
j above. I concluded'to attend, although
j I had jnst recovered from an attack of
1 sickness. Bright and early ou Saturday
morning a traveler might be seen slowly
j wending his way over bill and across
j dale, building iu imagination great air
i castles of what a grand time ho would
see when he arrived at his destination.
| I have always hoard it said “never
: anticipate too much happiness for vour
brightest hopes bloom but to die,' 1 and
while wo may be in blissful ignorance
of it, still dark clouds are gathering,
and soon the bright sunlight of happi¬
ness will be shrouded from oar view;
but to proeeeed destination about 11
1 arrived at my
o'clock, and immediately proceeded to
soo tho wonders of the place. Soon tito
horn blew a shrill blast and all was
immediately in motion, moving towards
tho stand to hear tho man of God ex
pound tho Gospel. order
After services the next in was
looking to tho interest of the inner
man. I luckily had an invitation to
diuc with ono of the good brethren and for
tried to do justice to the occasion,
it was extremely doubtful whether nr
not I would get anything else during
the mooting, for l was a stranger, and
of course could not hope ior much to
oat. But contrary to my expectations
another good brother gave me a press¬
ing invitation to spend tho night with
him and of course his kind offer was
accepted gladly. Everything moved
smoothly during tho day, and nothing
occurred to mar tho happiness of the
occasion but a few dog lights which
seated to afford endless amusement to a
crowd of youngsters whosochiof delight
was iu such mischief.
They seemed to havo a glorious time
that night, and sinners hooked to tho
altar by the semes, aud it seemed as
if services were never going to close,
and I couid hear some of the boys who
were not so lucky as myself, saying that
i wore sleepy aud wished their bod¬
room would soon be vacated.
Wei’, after seeing ail that was to be seen
for that day, 1 proceeded to tho tent to
catch some of natures sweet restorer
ore old Sol again made his appearance.
[ found everything in confusion, for in
tho next tont some wore shouting, while
others seemed to b trying to sing tho
hoards off of the tent. On calling for my
sleeping apartment the brother took
me to a bed made down with tho earth
for a bedstead whero 1 could rest my
weary limbs to my hearts content. Bid¬
ding mo retiro aud make myself at
homo, as they were not toady yet, he
left mo alone m my glory. I commen¬
ced immediately to see how things were
ar anged and found myse'f in an inclo¬
sure about twenty feet long and ten feet
wide, with a curtain for a door shutter.
It was not, long ere I was ensconced be¬
tween the sheets,dreaming sweet dreams
of some fair angel who deigned to smiio
on me duriug the day. but my dreams
were destined to bo of short duration.
I became aware of a companion who
was VYflO a (ti stranger OVt UU^VL to t ’a liiVJ, me. and also of 1 the

instant, and to my relief vanished,
leaving nothing to toil of her
