OUR COUNTY.
It sl.ould be the aim of every citizen
in White county, to advance her inter¬
est in every possible war.
There is not a county in the State,
endowed with more natural advantages
than White county—her water powers
are magnificient, her soil productive,
her timbers almost inexhaustible, and
her peopm talented. Now let us go to
work, and build school houses anu put
them in charge of the best teachers
that we can find—practical teachers,
who are able *■', educate our children in
a practical way. Au education, without
a practical b knowledge * of business is
worth but little to any one. uet every
one be taught according to the avooa
tion desired. When this is done, we
shall see at least five times the
cf agricultural and mechanical or©- 1
ducts as are now being produced. We
shall see hundreds of cotton bales, and
F 'tories to manufacture it for our use,
We would also have machinery for the
manufacturing of our timbers, (which
are as good as the best,) iuto carriages,
wagons and furniture- and the very
bMt flouring milis and an ample supply
of grain to keep them daily employ .
Besides, we would have better, and mo. o
elevated society—and labor would be
better, and better remunerated. There
would be no excuse for ldleuer none
could say no has offered to hi re
A practical education would e,ovate
the minds of the people above certain
j degrading avocations, and place them
in respectable positions of usefulness
to themselves and th-'S? around them,
Let us use every laudable me-:ns in
our power to build up oar county ; ■ an

enterprises of usefulness, an a among
other things let ns build a rail road from
some convenient point, our vtouk:
city. Who will lead in this matter ?
We know that our capital is small, - at
labor is abundant and cheap.

is sure to beset capital. H we cannot
produce a sufficient amount of capital,
we must offer inducements to capitalists
from abroad; acquaint them with our na¬
tural advantages, ami prove to them by
our actions, that we are a generous and
hospitable poopie. Then, and not, .a*',
til then tbey will come among us, and
help us to build up our too much neg¬
lected section of Georgia.
