Spam inventive genius h, iS broaght to
itgiit a process that wiil make all kinds
of wearing apparel perfectly water¬
proof aud. proof against maths. It is
some kind of chemical Rotation
wkkit various garments and cloth?, are
dipped. It costs about one cent per
yard to make goods thus impervious to
water. Such ao invention as that will
do away with umbrellas. Hope that'
some man will invent, for the benefit of
printers, a suit of clothes that will last
for a lifetime. Then they will not bo
always after delinquent subscribers.
RECORDING INDECENT DETAILS.
Os’.tWCNlOATED.l
I ho Atlanta Constitution, of date fbo
!8tn ias'.aut, publishes on its local pa^e
-. the indecent details of aa affair brought
from Peters Street, in Atlanta, before
the Recorder’s Court. The reporters
of that paper seem to take delight in
bringing* before the reading public all
the little dirty things that happen in
■a!! parts of that great city. The Con¬
stitution is the acknowledged loading
journal of the Georgia State Press, but
it is not the most decent. In its pages
there often appear many things that
offend the decent-pure-minded reader.
It is not a paper that a discreet, care¬
ful man would waut t0 p UC j Q g [lti hands
o.‘ his pare miadei daughter.
The wide-spread demoraliz itien of
the present day is largely owing to the
lack of discretion on the part of nawa
paper men. There are some Georgia
papers that do not allow such things in
their columns. One is the La Grange
ileporter , which is a newspaper of many
excellences. The Macon Telegraph and
Messenger is another paper whose coL
nmns aro not stained by those unclean
recitations. The daily and weekly
press is largely responsible for the moral
tone that exists. It would be well were
there more papers that would be too
dignified and elevated in character to
allow unclean things a place in their
Columns, Let the newspaper press be
i’Offio fiiorei shasfe in its recordings and
f ilo w a ° tbm “ thac would cause a blush
to mantle „ the cheek of the moat pure
minded to go into their pages, and the
moral tone will advance. The editors
and publishers of newspapers aro held
responsible before the bar of conscience
and before another tribunal more sol¬
emn for the pabulum they daily and
weekly spread before hungry minds, i
