When these are concluded and the pa pers are graded in the several branches of study, reports will be issued showing the class stand of every student. These reports will also carry the student's record in attendance and conduct. With few exceptions the cadets and other students are making an enviable record this year. Numbers of them never get a demerit, but on the con trary receive only commendation for uniformly correct deportment. They are regular and prompt) in ft tendance, diligent in study, and punctilious in meeting every military requirement. Of course, there are some of whom thia can not be truthfully said. That has always been true since schools were first established, and it will likely con', tinue to the end of time. The boys are disappointed that th« y will not be able to make the trip to Washington. The fault is not theiis. They did their part and were ready for the trip. The undertaking waB a biggir thing, perhapB, that its promoters were at first aware. When it came to the show down the money were lacking. Hence the collapse of the scheme. It is to be regrette i. But the cadets are not losing any sleep over the announcement, made at the eleventh hour, that all idea of the trip must be abandoned. They eat three square meals every dav. go through the daily drills with the same old time snap, plav ball as hard as ever in short, pursue the daily routine of cadet life with the same degree of energy as before going to Washingten was first broached. The] true cadet- soldier uever whines, mopes,or sulks. He takes what cornea calmly, it not with the philosophy of the ancient stoic. In college base ball circles the coming of Coach Sharpe is all the talk during recreation hours these days. Mr. Sharpe is due to report on Mar. 1st, less than ten days off. Then the spring practice will be begin in good earnest. Already much work has been 'done. The can didates for places on the team have put in sharp] practice every day that the weather was fit. Some have made good. All have shown up well. Major Reynolds has studied the men in action and knows pretty well how the line up will be, but he is keeping mum. Coach Sharpe will form his owr. opinion after he has given the can didates a tharough working out. Arrangements are making for the annual field day early in May. A com mittee from the faculty and the cadets have the affair in charge and will be ready ♦oannouncethe various event^a.; n early day. Much interest is manifested in the occasion, and there will likely be a number of contestants in each event. The candidates for athletic honors are training hard every day. The date of the field day will find them in fine con dition. St me records are going to be broken this year. tive in the mind. They are his meat and drink. Field ]day and Commencement will find him innured to the "strenous life” and read for the “fray”-wheather on the drill ground, or the rostrum. The cadet is a healthy, vigorous youngster. One of these days he is going to be a strong, pushing, wide-awake man that does things. Great is the cadet. Who is not his friend? Married. At the Baldwin Parsonage Thursday morning Feb. 18. 09. B. He will start in as Coach on Monday, March 1 will deliver the Memorial address in 1st. Mrs. Sharp will accompany' Milledgeville on April 20, next. Marcus W. Beck he >a serving his engagement with the college. Coach Sharpe writes in a very hjpeful vein about his pros pective work with the G. M. C. ball squad. He ] evidently expects to get down to business from the start, • and there is no doubt but that the casion will be impressive. The date o f the contest has not been determined, butit will likely be some time in March. There is keen rivary among the young aspirants for oratorical honors. What with the set tasks for each day in books and drill, the try out for places on the ball team, the daily |run for the purpose of hardening the mnscles and improving the wind, the hard work for field day, learning ’toapeak pieces on the stage,’ writing English exercises — and hundreds of other "engagements,” the cadet in the G.
