Resolutions on The
Death ot Mr. Staley
Whereas, God in his wisdom has reen
fit to call from his eaithlv labors our
brother Joseph i,Staley, wno departed
this life on Saturday Feb. 27th, 1909;
And whereas we deeply deplore the
untimely death of our brother who during
his life was a charitable and loyal mem

and by his life and actions showed that
he loved his fellow man and the noble
order which was proud to claim him as
a member and whereas by his death,
j this Lodge has lost one of its members
who was ever, ready to do his best for
its members and who carried within his
heart in and out of the Lodge Room the
beautiful principals of Friendship, Lov e
and Truth, Therefore be it resolved by
Talmage Lodge No. 300 I. O. O. F.
That we deeply Mourn the death of

000 and there were several of then.
When it is lemembered that there
arc no very wealthy people in Milledge-
ville, only two or three worth between
$50,000 and $100,000, this is a most
creditable proceeding. The money was
raised freely by all denominations and
classes and their liberality is a credit to
a city of 6,000 people, over half of
whom are colored.
Every Milledgevillite loves Milledge-
ville and never fails to respond prompt
ly and liberally when the name or in
terest of his city is at stake. Rev.
Ford McRee, pastor of the church, is
one of the brainrst men and ministers
in tho North Georgia conference.
We congratulate tho people of Mil-
ledgeville and trust that their public
spirit and love of homo may become
contagious all over the state.
GIVING UP MONEY TO
HELP POSH THE TOWN
Editor Walter J. Vaughan in The
Middle Georgia Farmer says of the
movement started by the Methodists
here to build a new church;
A splendid example of public Jspirit
was exhibited last week in Milledge-
ville.
On Sunday morning it was suggested
that a new Methodist church be erec
ted,one that would be a credit to the
city and cost not less than $25,000. In
less than thirty minutes $13,000 was
voluntarily sifb-cribed. In two hours
1 $4,000 more was added, and within the
| week the full amount w a ibscriber*.
