Local real estate in in big demand and the city has great future stretched out before it. This was clearly demon- strated in the sale of the West End lots last Wednesday afternoon. The Schell property was put on sale at auction by Mr. J. O. Blood worth, the enterprising young real estate man of the city, and within a few hours over $H,000 woith of real estate changed hands, conscr vative local business men being the purchasers in most instances, while a few outside folk participated in the affair. This coming on the heels of two or three big sales lasti year shows Milledgeville is fast assuming a place among the leading cities of the state. The general indications are that the cicy will see an era of prosperty within the next few years that will put it ahead of anything in its history. Tlje sale was a big success from every stand point. The purchasers were satisfied and in several instances lots changed hands within twenty four hours at a much increased price over what they brought at the auction. AUTO HOADS MAV SOON WEB STATE Road Proposed Between Macon and Augusta. Other Routes Will Also Be Laid Out. Atlanta to New York Project Progressing ATLANTA, Ga. -Stirred by the lammoth movement now on for the construction of a great national high way from New York to Atlanta, Prison Commissioner Wiley Williams has con ceived for the employment of surplus convicts a plan that may play an im portant part in the state’s future. Com missioner Williams proposes the con struction of two great Georgia highways quartering the state, one stretching from the Tennessee border on tho north through Atlanta to Valdosta op‘the south, and the other from Columbus on I tho Chattanoochee at the west across the state through Macon to Augusta on the Savannah at the east. ’’The state can do this work with the surplus con victs,—such convicts as the counties don’t want,” hays Commissioner Wil liams. ‘‘It is quite possible that a number of counties will, turn in, their convicts a year ifrom now,—will tuvn them back to tho state at the end of the year, saying they have no more w ork for them' or prefer not to use them, We could easily utilize the convicts so lurried back in building those same state highways that I describe. Some new roads would have to be surveyed, but not many, for we could avail ourselves of the countv systems and in the main both the north and south highway and the east and west highway are there right now, waiting to be amalgamate! throughout their length into one continuous whole. The state prison department will build these two roads if it has any surplus convicts and if I can mako my fellow commide ioners see the matter as I do.” Alter Delivering Commencement Ad dress He Will Visit Stale Insti tutions Here and May Speak !o P.
