It may surprise her but it will do her Rood. o o o Who says a woman has nothin*; to do? In one vear she cooks breakfast, dinner and supper each 365 times, washes dishes ! 1,095 times, gets the children ready for I school twice a day for 180days, and puts , the baby to sleep 1,560 tintCS, not to j mention a few other odd jobs. ooo In home there shsuld be no jar, no striving for place, no insisting on pre-’ rogatives, or division of interest. The husband and wife are each the comple ment of the other. And it is as much his duty to be cheerful as it is hers to sweep and garnish the pleasant interior. A family where the daily walk of the father makes life a testival, filled with heavenly benediction. Let no young man of industry and perfect honesty despair because his pro fession or calling is crowded. Let him always remember that there is room I enough at the top, and that the question , whether he is ever to reach the t”p, or ' rise ab’ve the erowd at the base of the pyramid, will be decided by the way in which he improves the first ten years in securing to himself a thorough know ledge of his nrofession. and a sound moral and intellectual culture. We have seen a timid, meek, self-dis trustful little body blossom out into strong, self-reliant womanhood under the tonic and cordial companionship of a husband who really went out of his way to find occasion for showing her how mnch he trusted her judgment and how tenderly he referred to her opinion. Sometimes it is pov erty that stands at our door and relief is wanted. More often it is not money nor bread, but something more pre cious, friendship sympathy. Sorrow or loneliness is before us. A mother’s heart is breaking. Money would be useless- it would be a mockery. But we can hold to the neighbor's lips a cup of the wine of love, filled out of our own heart, which will hearten the sufferer. Or it is the anguish of a life struggle, a human Gethsemane, beside which we are called to watch. We can give no actual aid —the soul must fight its bal- ties alone; but w^an be as the angel that ministered to our Lord’s Gethse mane imparting strength and helping the weary struggler to win the victory, o o o One Day. It is beautiful to give one day to the ideal—to have one day apart. One day for generous deeds, good will, gladness. One day to forget the shadows, the rain, the storms of life; to remember the sunshine, the happiness of vouth and health. One day to forget the briars and thorns on the winding path, to remem ber the fruits and flowers. One day in which to forget yourself and think lovingly of others. One day for the family, tho (ireside, for the wife and children, for the love and laughter, the joy and rapture of home. One day in which books and stocks ] and deeds and notes, and interest and mortgage, and all kinds of business and trade are forgotten, and all stores and shops and lactones, and offices and hanks, and ledgers and account, and lawsuits are cast aside, put away and locked up, and the weary heart and brain are given a voyage to fairyland. Let us hope that such a duv is a pro phesy of what all davs will be. ooo Do not take up babies every time they cry or they will soon learn to cry a great deal for that purpose. Be sure that they are made comfortable in every particular, and it will not hurt them to cry a little, and the wailing will soon cease if the child’s wishes are not grati fied. it is easier than one would at first suppose to teach infants to go to sleep without rocking, singing, or tell ing stories to them. It Is a temptation to fold a sweet b^by in one’s arms and lull it to sleep, but when we contem plate the number of times that this must be done when we have not time for it, it is better to forego the pleasure. Begin just as you w'sh to continue, in sisting upon as great a regularity as possible in its eating, sleeping and all things; watch closely and do not let little habits form that will be a trouble afterward, such as leaving a light for the little ones to go to sleep by and a legion of others too numerous to men tion. Most children are over fed, and they fret and cry and are unmanageable in consequence. ooo Home-Making And Home Makers To the true man or woman there can lie nothihg more agreeable on earth than the business of homc-makir.g; and all who are not home makers miss the best part of their mission in life. Whoever makes a home, in the best sense of the work, is a real benefactor to the race; for every true home is the abode of joy, peace, happiness and security to those that share in it, and exerts an influence that is incalculable for the amelioration of the whole human family. Many a prodigal has been led by the thought of home, and the makers of his own par ticular home, to repent of his sins and to change his course in life; and many an unfortunate one has been saved in the evil hour from suicide, of worse, by the tender recollections of home, a fond mother’s-prayer'e an indulgent father’s counsels, or a sister^f brother’s ten derness. Yes, whoever helns to make a true borne confers a benefit on mankind that no man can fully estimate. Indeed, the influence of the true home for good is abeolutely incalculable, and reaches many even that never enter its inner raaBaBsaBBSOBsan zRrEsrraassaT OUR PRICES Building Material? j WILL SAVE YOU FROM io to 20 Per Cent. | Lime, Cement, Plaster, Doors, Sash.
