The future career of little Ed Mur phy. twelve years old, may he vastly changed on account of the visit of the Hon. Hoke Smith to Milledgeville. While inspecting the reformatory Guv. Smith was attracted by the youthful in mate ana on questioning him found that he had been scooped up with a lot of other hoys and sent down to the refor matory. ”1 am going to take him up to Atlan ta,” said the governor. “and get him ready to enter an industrial school. His mother is dead and I feel sure he has the qualities which will make him a use ful citizen.” The lad followed the governor gladly and no doubt will remember always the coming of Mr. Smith this week. '(Left Over From La3t Week.) Mr. John W. Johnston passed away at 3:19 o’clock Monday morning, at the residenc of his daughter, Mrs. E. W. James, No. 1936 Walker street, after an illness of four days. Mr. Johnston was 76 years old. Mr. Johnston is survivel by two chil dren, cne son. Mrs. J. Harry Johnston, and one daughter, Mrs. E. W. James. The funeral services were conducted from the residence of Mrs. James, Tues day morning, at 10 o’clock. Rev. How ard T. Cree officiated. The interment was in the West View cemetery. The pallbearers were as- follows: Messrs. W. J. Cobb, John Matheny, W. R. Roberson, Elijah Bargeron G. D. Etta and t)r. J. P. Smith. . Mr. Johnston was well known in A\ gusta as he has been a resident here for several years. He had many friends who learn with deep degret of hisdeath.
