The second meeting of the Tuesday
Evening Bridge Club was held Tuesday
evening with Miss Annie McCombs and
the occasion was a pleasant one. The
guests were served with refreshments
out in the open.

Mr. Clyde Warnie Cooper, of Au
gusta. was in Milledgevillu Wednesday.
Mr. W. S. Scott has been quite ill for
several days this week, but is better.
Miss Mary Cline and Julia Conn left
Tuesday for Knoxville to take the sum
mer course at the School of the South.

Miss Harriet Folger, who has been
one of the most valued teachers of the
G. N. I. college for the past five years,
has resigned her position to accept a
place with the University of Nebraska.
Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock
Miss Ruby Bass and Mr. J.ames Atkin
son were happily united in marriage,
Rev. Lamar Sims officiating. Quite a
large crown of friends and relatives of
the voting couples were present and nu
merous presents attested the popularity
and esteem of the participants in the
affair. The newly wedded couple left
on the afternoon train over the Georgia
road for Harlem where a reception was
tendered by the parents of Mr. Atkin
son. They will continue t.’ip for about
a week and then return to Miilcdgeville
to make it their future home. Both are
well known young folk of Milledgcville
and their large number of friends ex
tend to them heartiest congratulations
and good wishes.
Dance Thursday Nlylit
In compliment to Miss Miriam Atkin
son. of Newnan, and Miss Gertrude
Sullivan, of Savannah, the young men
of the city gave a dance at Red Men’s
hall Thursday night. The event was
most delightful and the following young
folk were present:
Misses Bottle, Jarratt, Allen, Sulli
van, Atkinson, Ferrell, Roberts. Messrs.
Joseph, Underwood, Wright, Nisbet,
Atwood, Brown, Cline.
The chaperones were Mr. and Mrs.
Bland, Dr, and Mrs. Atkinson.
Miss Claire Barnes Honored.
Brof R. IT. Bowell is in Athens for
the next month teaching at the summer
school of the University of Georgia.
Bresident M. M. Parks, of the G. N.
I. C. was in Mlanta Wednesday.
Mr. D. A. Jewells, of Jewells, Ga.,
president of the Bowen-Jewells Co., was
a visitor in Milledgeville several days
this week.
Mr. H. Connellee, of Wrightsville,
moved to Millevgeville, bringing his
wife last Monday. He had been here
for a couple o! weeks before and start
ed an upholstery business.
Some splendid peaches have been of
fered for sale here during the last two
weeks and Mr. F. W. Hendrickson, pro
prietor of the Fairview Cannery and
one of the best farmers in the county,
has favered The News office with sever
al baskets of the famous Georgia fruit.
The Rome correspondent of the Free
Lance at Lindale, Ga. has the following
to say of a charming Milledgeville girl:
Miss Genie Clair Barnes, who has been
having such a delightful time with
the younger set, us the guest of Miss
Cornelia Chappell, was on Thursday
afternoon honored with a delightful
honrt dice party given by Mias Nellie
Adamson.
During her stay in Rome Miss Barnes
has won many friends who have united
to give her a delightful time. The Al
fresco party given by Mias Chappell in
her honor on Friday last was one ot the
beautiful events of the season and
brought together at Desoto park about
twenty couple of young folk. Miss
Barnes is a Georgia Normal and In
dustrial girl and an attractive coming
debutante.
Mr. W. B. F. Daniel, of Dublin is
spending a few days with his son Mr.
J. J. Daniel.
Little Miss Sadie Daniel has returned
home after spending several days with
her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B.
F. Daniel, of Dublin.
The ladies of the Basket Band enjoj-
ed an all day quilting at the home of
Mrs. Frank Gobert Wednesday and a
delightful dinner added to the charm of
the occasion. The Basket Band is pur
suing and industrious course and still
working and taking orders whereby
they are helping along the new church.
Mr. George Bayne has accepted a po
sition with the Southern Express Co. in
Atlanta and loft for that city Thursday
' morning. His friends here wish him
much success in his work.
Mr. M. W. Whitfield, so well anti
favorably known here, has accepted a
position with the military band of River
side Academy at Gainesville, Ga. and
left for that place Wednesday.
Miss Willie Belle Mauck.of Clarkston,
who has been connected with the G. N.
1. college for the past year has been
elected teacher of Domestic Science at
the Tenth District Agricultural college
in Hancock county.
Mr. Hudson Bullard, who has been
teaching at Clarksville has returned
home to spend the summer.
I Judge W. H. Stembridgo and Mr. Geo.
W. Hollinshead will leave Sunday for
Tallulah Falls to attend the meeting of
the country school cammissoners of the
state.
