That the re-organized Farmers Union
Warehouse Co. a ill be ready to furnish
farmers througout this section with
virtually all (heir supplies beginning
the First Monday in February is an
authentio statement to the public. At
a meeting of the stockholders of the
original company last Saturday this
plan was definitely decided upon and
Tjesday another meeting was held to
furt her the project.
Mr. J. H. Ennis will have charge of
the new company and supplies of all
kind, including fertilisers will be sold
to the farmers. Mr. W. T. Garrard
is president of the company while M r.
Miller S. Bell is chairman of the board
of directors and the finance committee.
An aggressive co nmeicial atnpaignwilj
be pursued by the new company, which
has ample backing and a paid in capital
of *25.000. Mr. Ennis will devote prac
tically all his time to the business and
insures to the patrons of the concern an
up-to-date service in this particular.
Census Examination to
Be Held Here on Feb. 5
Supervisor Harry Bums for the Sixth
district of Georgia announces that an
examination for census enumerators for
this district wi'l be held at the postolfice
here on Saturday, Feb. 6. next. The
applicants for the census job through
out the Uuited States are not as num
erous as they were in the last census,
owing to the fact that the renumeratii n
does not meet the increase in other
lines of business and there is a lack of
workers in some section of the country.
However, Baldwin county will prob
ably have a full number of its own sup-
pet visors and. the work of counting up
the Deople will commence the middle of
April.

Farm Experts Will
Bold Meeting Bere
Coterie ol Agriculturists From State
Agricultural College ttlll be I res
ent For Three Days.
Through strong influences a big agri
cultural meetting for the Sixth district
has been secured for Milledgoville and
several agricultural experts will dis
pense agricultural data to the farmers
of this .lection on February 21, 22 and
23, next. 'The meetings will be held
at the court house and it will alford a
rare chance for the farmers to gather
valuable iuformaticn on the most ap
proved methods in modern farming. Of
course, much can be learned by any
farmer who will attend.
Mr. R. L. Nixon, assistant in charge
of the farm extension work of the uni
versity was in Millodgeviile Tuesday
and discussed the matter with a num
ber of local men who are interested in
the work. Half a dozen experts in
farming, including Dr. Andrew M,
Soule, president of the Georgia Agri
cultural College, will be here during the
meeting. Prof. J. E. Hite, who is in
direct charge of the work, will be
present and also Profs. Early, Minear
and McLaren, together with Mr. R. L.
Nixon.
The extension work is directed at im
proved farm methods and the informa
tion gleaned from long experience and
observation is brought down to the
farmer’s door, so to speak. During the
mooting here there will bo six addresses
each day, three in the morning and
three in the evening. The first two
evenings illustrated lectures will be
given and there is no doubt but that a
large crowd will attend each session of
the meeting.

Office In Baldwin County
Mr. K. P. Hawkins announces for re
election to office of tax collector in this
isTue of The News. In a hotly contest
ed campaign in the last election he won
out over his several opponents and dur
ing the term of office he states ho has
worked unceasingly to make a success
of the collections, securing many old
defaulters and increasing th3 county’s
returns. The card of Mr. Hawkins will
no doubt be read with much interest arid
those fami.iar with his work declare they
believe ho has performed conscientious
duties, keeping the books open at all
times for the payment of taxes.

22, 23, next. Wednesday State Knto-
molgist K. L. Worsham advised The
News that he would endeavor to be
present and thought it certain that he
could he here. He wishes to look over
the trees of the city of Milledgeville
and also at the Sanitarium. His visit
will be one of much inte“est.
Prof. C. L. Willougby, now manager
of Fern Crest dairy and formerly con
nected with the state experiment sta
tion, stated also that, he would come
over and join in the festivities for a
day or two. There is no doubt but
that the gathering will bo one of the
most notable of its kind ever held in
Milledgeville.
New Office Building

The ( instruction of a new office build
ing for ne Htate farm has been ordered
by the prison commission and work on

gressing nicely and indications are that
Supt. Buiko will start wilh splendid
promises of making a bumper crop.
The death of Miss Mary E. Rice at
Cooneryilln Tuesday night at 10 o’clock
was exceptionally sad. She had been
ill for only a week, death being caused
by pneumonia. Miss Rice was about
sixty years of age and is survived by
her mother, 90 years old, also Iwo
brothers and one sister.

Savings Department Feature
For Tlie New National Bank
The First National Bank of Milledge
ville, which will probably be ready for
business by the middle of next month,
will have a savings department and in
this connection it will introduce a new
phase of the savings department. Usu-
I ally banks operating a saving depart-
| rnent specify that money must remain
I on despo3it six months in order to obtain
j a share in the interest division.
| President Julius A. Horne, of the new
| bank, announces that if money is loft
] for three months from any given date,
interest will be paid on the deposit at
the usual 4 per cent rate.
Man Who Obtained Money
Here Denied New Trial
Judge W. T. Newman, of the United
States court in Atlanta refused to grant
a new trial to L. B. McCrory, Jr. who
according to press reports, has been
convicted of obtaining money by fraud
ulently using the mails. A reliable
statement from a local party i“ to the
effect that a citizen of this city lost
$200 through the manipulation of Mc
Crory, who operated the Credit Ad
justing Company.

Mrs. Mary Loo Slovens
Bifid ol Gordon Monday
After only a few days of patient suf
fering with Pneumonia the sweet snirit
of Mrs. Mary Lou Stevens, passed into
the great beyond last Monday.
Mrs. Stevens spent her childhood
days in, and around Milledgeville, but
her residence for some time past has
been at Gordon, Ga., where she died.
Her death came as a surprise to her
many friends the fatal disease anting so
rapidly. Before her mart’iiige wos Miss
Chambers, horn June 3rd 1852. She
was 57 years and 22 days old. At the
age of 20 she married Mr. J. R. Stevens,
seven children blessed their union, four
who now mourn her death, three having
passed away. Those living are Gazelle,
Euodis, Marion, who now live in Mil
ledgeville, and Lizzie who is in Gordon.
Bright and cheerful in disposition, her
home could be no otherwise than happy,
a devoted wife, a loving mother, loyal
church member and ready for any
seftice. Sho will be greatly missed bv
all who knew and loved her.

The annual meeting of the Georgia
Horticultural society was held in Sparta
yesterday and Wednesday and the
gathering was one of the most largely
attended that has been held in years,
showing increasing interest in this
branch of werk. The development of
the apple industry in North Georgia
seems to be one the great things of the
future.
